Discipleship that Fits: The Five Kinds of Relationships God Uses to Help Us Grow is a book that was authored by Bobby Harrington and Alex Absalom. Within this book the authors defend Biblical discipleship and show the reader how this understanding fits within the context of the local church. For them “being a disciple of Jesus simply means that you are modeling your life thoughts, your words, your actions, your everything after the example and teaching Jesus has given us.” (DTF, 16) A disciple is a person that is committed to the process of becoming like Christ. The authors also defend discipleship as the process that helps people trust and follow Christ. These two definitions work together in the opening of this book to lay the foundation

Ronald Witherup discusses the threefold priestly ministry by using three analogies: the priest as poet, sage, and teacher. However, three chapters seem to be only preaching-and-teaching oriented. He mentions the expected order of vocabulary in PDV #26: “the ministry of word, sacrament and pastoral charity” to match with the order of the threefold roles: prophet, priest, and king. The three analogies help to re-imagine a concrete picture of priestly expectation for the ministry of the Word. It is interesting enough to see the expectations developed in priestly models today because when Jesus chooses disciples, they are all ordinary people without specialty/competence at all.…

Discipleship is a word that a lot of churches throw around but rarely carry out a process to which a person can be brought from conversion to maturity. Dr. Robby Gallaty, the pastor of Long Hollow Baptist Church, claims that the one essential element of discipleship is replication/reproduction. He goes on to state in one of his sermons that Discipleship is the twenty-first-century reformation. The three main resources it takes for discipleship are manpower, money, and mandate. If you are going to succeed in discipleship Dr. Gallaty gives three main groups that you must work on.…

During the early 1900s, the founding fathers of the Met experienced financial difficulties. Dr. Wilson (2016) argues that spiritual formation is about “obedience, conformity to Christ, being an apprentice of Jesus Christ, and action of the Word and Spirit.” The basis of Dr. Wilson’s argument is that these component assist in the formation of an individual’s spiritual growth. Scorgie (2011) contends, “Christian spirituality is ultimately about being attentive to the Holy Spirit’s voice, open to his transforming impulses, and empowered by his indwelling presence” (p. 27). In other words, a life that is being formed spiritually will be sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit, in order to be renewed and invigorated through Christ living in him. This formation is a process that will endure throughout a person’s life, as they continually yield to the work of the Holy…

Anytime you are attempting to influence the thinking, actions, or behavior of another, you are engaging in leadership (Blanchard & Hodges, 2003). Introduction into this book and videos covers how we need to set long term goals, but before doing so we need to ask ourselves some questions. Before we can set those goals we should seek to know Christ. This can be done by reading the four gospels and seeing what Jesus did, what we can learn from him, and how does it relate to us? Jesus’ last commandment was to go and make disciples, and while principles never change, our methods have to change in order to reach the current generation, and each beyond. As we get into the chapters we learn that men are God’s method and while they may seem unlearned or ignorant by man’s standards, God uses those willing to learn and raises them into leadership.…

Starting off this class with reading what Family Ministry is defined as opened up my view on how Family Ministry can be diverse in a variety of understanding. Diana Garland stated that “family ministry is any activity that directly or indirectly (1) forms families in the congregation community; (2) increases the Christlikeness of the family relationships of Christians; or (3) equips and supports families for the work to which they are called together.” Earlier in the reading she stated that “The flurry of programs called family ministry is the fear that Christian families are falling apart and need churches to strengthen and support them.” Diana Garland’s definition is what I strive for in ministry and I believe that she also is aware…
