Milk, yoghurt, cheese and/or alternatives
Foods are grouped together due to their similarities in regards to nutrients which they offer the consumer (Eat For Health, 2015)

Vegetables

Additionally they contain fibre, antioxidants, minerals and vitamins (Eat For Health, 2015). It is recommended that most of the foods consumed in this group are wholegrain or wholemeal (Australian Department of Health, 2011). Adults are recommended to consume 4-6 serves of grain foods per day (Eat For Health, 2015). This group can be broken up into breads, breakfast, grain and other products (Eat For Health, 2015).
Examples of grain (cereal) foods include: muesli, polenta, noodles, pasta, porridge and wholemeal bread
Examples of a serving size include: 1 slice of bread, ½ cup pasta, ¼ muesli, 1 crumpet (Better Health Channel, 2016).

Foods in this group contain sources of nutrients, such as, vitamin B12, essential fatty acids, zinc, iron and protein (Brownie et al., 2015). This groups includes, red meat, white meat, fish, eggs, legumes and tofu (Australian Department of Health, 2011). Meats should not contain the skin, as this is often high in fat (Australian Department of Health, 2011). It is recommended that adults consume 1-3 serves of these foods per day, and a maximum of 7 serves of lean red meat each week, these recommendations are dependent on age (Eat For Health, 2015).
