Describe, in your own words the five contexts of communication described in Chapter 1 of the textbook
Intrapersonal communication is the mode of communication where a person kind of speaks to himself. This is more like thinking, but in a manner that there is a source delivering the message and the recipient. Talking to oneself quietly is a form of this communication, because there is a debate going on in one’s heart where there will be engagement of questions and answers.

In this form message is sent to this group and will be received by all the people in that kind of group. Another example could be TV or radio adverts meant for all the listeners.

I used the intrapersonal communication today when I was thinking about the workshop I was going to, and how I was going to participate. This was because I wanted to have a feel of whether I was aware of the content of the workshop and trying to find out what kind of questions I would ask if they weren’t covered in the presentation.
The interpersonal communication I experienced just a few minutes ago when I met one of my friends and I wanted to tell him about the new developments in my life, and he listened to me and responded positively to me. He also told me about what has been happening to him in the past few months; and that was a very good experience considering we had not met in a long time. There were 5 of us and everyone gave their ideas; we discussed and apparently made a final document to submit to the commissioner for implementation. This was a group communication we were in.
A public communication I was involved in was 2 months back when our big boss at work had just returned from suspension and he called all of us; the staff, to share to us how he plans to take the company to the next level. Almost all the employees were so happy and they even sang for him, which made him join the song in happiness. This was a happy moment for all of us.
I used mass communication yesterday when I informed my team that I won’t be in office and was announcing who will be in charge in my absence. The mode of communication was a group email we have a t work so that everyone would read and act upon what I was informing them of, and they also responded by just “Noted” so as to make me aware that they got the message and would act accordingly.
