Fishing with Papa As the year's pass, I find myself fantasizing of going fishing on my papa's lake. He bought the land when I was in kindergarten, and I spent countless hours there each summer running free, learning to fish in our lake, and discovering who I am. My best reminiscences of growing up are in a boat, listening to my papa's stories, with a pole in my hand. I look back now and comprehend that, by teaching me to fish, my papa eventually taught me how to be patient. Before I even really began fishing, my papa would explain to me the types of fish in our lake. He made sure I baited my hooks, set my bobbers, and had the correct amount of weight on my pole. He watched me cast and encouraged me to be patient when I did not get a bite on my line within the first few minutes. He worked with me time after time as I excitedly jerked my bait out a fish mouths when I would feel it pulling. Eventually, I learned to be patient and set the hook so that I could reel in my catches. I remember quite a few beasts that fought me hard, and when I finally got them into the boat, they were tiny little fish that seemed so weak. Large or small, my papa cheered each time I proudly held up the fish I caught. Occasionally, we would jug fish using worms for bait. Jug fishing was always exciting because we usually caught big catfish that were always interesting to me. I remember the first time we caught something other than a fish on our jug it was a snapping turtle. I lifted the jug out of the water expecting a catfish and saw an angry snapping turtle. We brought along our fishing rods, baits, and cold drinks. Soon, we found a shady spot, fixed the hook, threw our lines into the water and waited. Half an hour later, there was still no sign of any fish. Suddenly, I shouted excitedly that I felt a sharp tug at my line. He became excited too and helped me to pull the fish out as it was heavy almost cutting off my pinky. He was overly excited at the sight of the huge gray fish. We tried our luck again and waited patiently. Soon I felt a sharp tug, but it turned out to be some green stinky moss. We had a good laugh and threw it beside us so that it wouldn't get in our way. Fishing with papa taught me to be patient that I can't always have what you want right away. Every person should realize the importance of patience. Patience in life can make them reach out for the stars. With patience, you can avoid making quick decisions. Life is not about living in the future or the past.
