The 29th Annual International Sportsmen's Exposition is returning to Cal-Expo in Sacramento Jan. 21-2. The show includes everything outdoors: travel, lodges and resorts; fishing and hunting outfitters and guides; fishing and hunting gear; boats and marine accessories; ATV's; 4x4 trucks; RV's and campers; and much more. There will be an off-road vehicle test track and, as always, the Youth Fair, where many free events and giveaways will be available for the youngsters. More information on the show will soon be available.

At New Melones, the water level came up 2-feet last week and should continue to rise with this week's weather pattern. Trout fishing is still slow but should change soon as the fish move closer to the shore, chasing shad minnows. Bass fishing is still going good for those up to winter fishing. During the winter, bass will sometimes go deeper and search for food on the bottom. Guide John Leichty, of Glory Hole Sports, recommends bringing up fish hooked in deep water with a slow, steady retrieve to allow them to adjust the bladder to the pressure change. If brought up too fast, the bladder will expand and the fish may die if not relieved. There are methods to relieve this bloating bladder and still release the fish, which are a bit difficult to explain, but by contacting John Leichty, who is an expert on bass fishing, he could explain the method. So what could have happened is used a fish finder to see what i was fishing over. Some errors are that brush, rock, or grass were not target as much as i should. The data did not support the hypothesis because the hypothesis stated that the smaller the top water lure the more fish the will catch, and that was not the outcome. The predicted results were that the smaller the lure would get more hits but what the experiment showed that the bigger the lures got more strikes. The whopper plopper had 7 strikes per day (which was the biggest lure) the popper had 6.6 on average (which the popper was the smallest lure) and bothe the spook and the buzzbait had under 5 strikes a day.…
