The theory that I decided to use, is a pretty interesting one called subcultural theory. I like to call this theory a small fish in a large body of water. “Subculture exists within and is part of a larger culture and refers to a difference in values, beliefs, ideas, views and/or meanings that a group of individuals holds from those of the larger culture” (Lab, 2015). My example of subculture theory would be the immigrants that came to the United States.…

The culture and economy of shellfishing Shellfishing and aquaculture have been an important part of the culture and economy of Cape Cod for many years. Shellfishing is a major contributor to Massachusetts economy, and Cape Cod’s coastal economy also relies on recreational and commercial shellfishing, as well as the tourist and seafood industries (Ensuring a Shellfish Future, Maggio, 2015). On Cape Cod, the commercial shellfish aquaculture supports 1,400 jobs, 17,000 recreational harvesters (Legere, 2015) is valued at $12.5 million annually, and the demand for oysters and clams is growing annually (Fishermen's Alliance, 2015). In fact, the oyster production of Cape Cod and the entire east Coast in the past five years has doubled due to consumer demand for the bivalves. Due to this economic increase in the shellfishing industry, shellfishing aquaculture has recently been getting strong financial and regulatory support from the federal governments and state governments (Fishermen’s Alliance, 2015).…

    Essay On Fish Ethnography

In what felt like a stumping search for something interesting to share about the uses of language in my family, I was reminded of an anonymous metaphor that easily relates to ethnography, “It is not the fish that discovers the water,” which recognizes the challenge of me as the fish to see the social world that surrounds me; ‘water’. Introspectively becoming that fish that does ‘discover’ the water that surround me in a socio-linguistic sense, I took a harder look at irregularities I had never before heard outside the context of my immediate family.
