I was extremely excited to watch Brooklyn College’s rendition of Speech and Debate. The reasoning behind my excitement was that whilst reading the play written by Stephan Karam, I quickly realized that it’s humor and authenticity were aspects that I typically enjoy to a great extent in stories, whether that be in the form of a television show, movie, or play. I also felt that I was readily prepared to watch the show meticulously and focus on its acting and casting aspects. I chose the acting facet of the production to be the focal point of my review yet again because I understand that I could have pushed further and been more detail oriented when writing my previous review. Brooklyn College’s Speech and Debate had a small cast of four actors.…

In the story “A & P” by John Updike the style of the writing is unlike most writing you may come across, it is a bit harder to follow sometimes but still fully understandable. The Story is about a young man who works in a grocery store as a cashier and the events that lead him to quit his job. There is also much more to it than that though, it illustrates that different people choose certain paths because of how they grew up or are growing up. The narrater of the story is a judgmental sounding nineteen year old who has something to say about anyone who walks into the store, but this particular day, when the girls walked in made him change is attitude a bit. At the beginning of the story the Narrator is just going about his daily routine when three girls supposedly around his age walk in, wearing nothing but bathing suits.…

In the passage Matthew 14:22 – 33, Matthew describes the scene in which the boat housing the disciples is being fiercely beaten by the waves in the ocean. The disciples have been alone, straining at the oars and struggling against the wind and the water for hours to keep afloat and they are tired. It isn’t until the fourth watch of the night that Jesus appears to them in the middle of the sea, walking on water. The disciples are fearful and Jesus dispels any doubts they may have had by using words of reassurance. Jesus says, “It is I. Don’t be afraid”.…

Looking back at my original interview questions, it is somewhat amazing to realize how much I have learned regarding Jesus of Nazareth and the times in which he lived in. It is extremely apparent that the original thoughts and ideas I had about Jesus were based on predominantly Western evangelical concepts and culture. As the course moved forward, these ideas shifted to a more historical and accurate perspective. Overall, the information and assignments provided within this class allow for one, including myself, to effectively improve upon their understanding of Jesus of Nazareth. To begin with, I would like to discuss some of the new knowledge I was exposed to throughout the course.…

He detaches himself and envisions himself escaping on a train and seeing his problems become smaller and smaller. Lane desperately wants to be “good people” and his spiritual convictions make him feel like a hypocrite and a liar and he begins to question his faith, but he does not seek counsel from his pastor, prayer partners on campus, his UPS friends or spiritual counsel at his parents’ old church. This deliberate avoidance to seek counsel is because he knows that all of these mentors would not approve of their decision to abort their child. I agree with Bucher when he points out that the man in the gray suit and the fishermen across the lake are all references to a higher power. Christ is symbolized by the fish, some of the first apostles were fishermen also Sheri’s last name is Fisher.…
