Veterans Day is one of the most well respected holidays in the U.S. Veterans day is a day to honor our troops. No country has ever achieved as much as the United States has. The U.S. would have never increased into the amounts of protection towards our freedom and justice it is today without the sacrifices our heroes have made. Our heroes risk their lives not only at war, but at home. While our veterans are out fighting for our freedom, they cannot be at home supporting and making great memories with their families.…

The question being asked of me is “Why Veterans are Important to Our Nation’s History and Future?” Veterans are important to me because I live with two of them and I have a lot of them in my family. Without them, I wouldn’t know the reason why we have people sacrificing themselves for our country. My Grandpa, Roy Noble, always said that “War is not good but fighting for our country is,” I didn’t really understand that until I realized without them we wouldn’t have a free country. Britain would have taken over and we would have a queen instead of a president, or something like that.…

More Assistance for Homeless Veterans Homelessness is an unfortunate occurrence that can affect some Americans, including non-veterans and veterans. A veteran "is a person who served in the active military, naval, or air service, and who was discharged or released therefrom under conditions other than dishonorable" (qtd. in Perl 2-3). When the war ended three years later, millions of people lost their lives. And for what, the Korean Peninsula is still divided today at the 38th Parallel. Veterans of the Korean War do not deserve to be forgotten, but remembered for service of protecting people in a foreign country. We keep Lincoln’s promise for the veterans by, paying for their GI Bill, if they are fighting in Iraq, Vietnam or something, and something really bad happens to them, like them breaking/losing their arms or legs, or if they go into a coma or something, the government pays for that, because they care about our veterans too. Whenever the veterans get home, we can throw parties for them whenever they walk through the door, to make them feel like they are welcomed back, and that they are loved. We would probably invite the people that they cared/loved about the most. When my uncle got back from serving in the military, we threw a party for him and the people that were there were Me, My Grandma, Grandpa, Mom, Dad, Kaden(My Brother), Drake(My Brother), Cousin(Brady- His Son), Cousin(Djerrah), Cousin(Xevo), Cousin(Gavin- His Son), Cousin(Hannah- His Daughter), Cousin(Cousin), Enzzo(Cousin)…

In an article written by Lori Daniels, James Boehnlein, and Phillip McCallion about post-traumatic stress disorder, the practice of life review has shown to significantly lower post-traumatic stress disorder among aging veterans suffering from the mental disability. Awareness of this disorder has gradually increased since veterans returned from the Vietnam War, but there has yet to be a breakthrough in how to properly treat post-traumatic stress disorder. The authors state that the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder on someone growing old will not result in successful aging, which is a person’s ability to be more emotionally flexible in social and personal environments. Post-traumatic stress disorder creates potential barriers against…

Currently, the American Public and Health Association (APHA) has no set policy dedicated towards improving the health conditions and/or mental well-being of retired military veterans within the United States. The United States international military campaign, commonly referred to as the War on Terror (WoT), was the longest sustained United States military operation since the end of the Vietnam era which saw more than 2.2 million troops being sent into the battle, resulting in over 6,600 deaths and 48,000 injuries (APHA, 2014). Billions of dollars in financial aid and countless hours of manpower has been spent towards helping war veterans and their families. However, as suggested by an accumulating body of empirical data, the current Department…

The Effects of War on Veterans in Afghanistan and Iraq More than half of the 2.6 million Americans dispatched to fight the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq struggle with physical or mental health problems and often begin to feel disconnected from civilian life, deriving from deployment. As stated in the article “After the Wars: A legacy of pain and pride”, written by Rajiv Chandrasekaran and published by The Washington Post. The conditions of being deployed and serving for our country can conclude in widespread consequences within soldiers in which if no help is provided, could become permanently detrimental. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Military Sexual Trauma (MST), and an increase in suicides are some of…

One would think that an American citizen of the United States would have knowledge of all the wars that our military has fought in sadly, this American, meaning myself, does not. In fact, the wars I do know about is most likely only a small tiny portion of the battles that were fought. I know there were wars with other countries and wars within our own country but even then, I still don’t know much about them. Here is a brief example of all the war’s I am familiar with; First, The American Revolutionary War that was fought in America in 1775, against Great Britain. The purpose of the war was to fight for our independence and declare ourselves an independent United States (thirteen colonies) of America.…

The Wounded Warrior Project’s mission is to honor and empower our wounded warriors. They would like to aid in providing this generation with the most successful and well-adjusted transition of wounded members in the service in the United States history. The Disabled American Veterans or DAV is a not for profit charity providing support of veterans of all generations alongside their families as well aiding over…

Washington State is home to approximately 660,000 military veterans with 60,000 of them still on active duty. About 2,000,000 family members of these veterans are affected by the service of their military member. Washington State Attorney General, Bob Ferguson, writes about proposing an Office of Military and Veteran Legal Assistance with his office, the Attorney General’s Office. Currently, our State Law bars the Attorney General’s Office from providing legal advice or representation to private citizens whether it is to bring action on behalf of an individual or to defend an individual. This same law affects military service members, veterans, and families, but lucky for them, there are resources available to them to assist with their…
