Who was the first US President to appear on Television?
The first United States President to appear on television was none other than the 32nd president of the US, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, usually known as FDR. He first appeared on black and white TV on April 30, 1939. This was during the opening ceremony for the World’s Fair. He was the president of the United States from the year 1933 until his demise in the year 1945. FDR was a democrat who made history by winning a record four elections on the presidential level. In this, he is the only US president to serve for more than two terms in the office of the president (the 22nd amendment to limit the presidential terms to two was passed in 1947). He is the first president ever to make a televised presidential address from The White House. He made history on October, 1947. At that time, the entire continent of Europe was still smarting from the effects of World War II, which was mostly during FDR’s tenure. He was voicing concerns over whether Europe would recover from the effects of war due to the food shortages after it was over. From there, all of Truman’s subsequent speeches were televised including his inauguration address in the year 1949. He is also remembered to be the first president to broadcast a paid advert who also pioneered the White House
