Mr. Mitchell-

I wanted to start out by saying how much I appreciated you taking the time to speak with me about First Tech’s Military Benefits Program last week. Being in the military and serving my country is something I am very passionate about. As requested, I have compiled some personal information below to show you examples of how we can enhance our current benefit. This would not only support our military employees, but also get us one-step closer to becoming the most admired credit union.

The policy as it stands now reads as follows:

• If an employee is using military leave for their annual Reserve or National Guard training, First Tech will pay the difference between the military pay and salary during this time. If the employee does not want to use a military leave of absence, they can use accrued PTO time. If an employee uses PTO time for a military leave, he/she will not receive the difference between military pay and regular pay. Instead,

By the time I would receive my LES or any back pay from First Tech the hardship would already be there. The whole process would probably take a month based on when the information is provided by the military.

With my previous experience at other employers, the military benefits include 10 to 12 days of paid leave for Annual Training outside of any vacation or sick time. If the leave is greater than 90 days they would pay 30 days of regular pay to allow the military insurance, benefits, and military pay to begin. This way the military employee would not have any gaps in pay. While I understand that this is a more expensive option for the employer, it did increase the number of qualified military personnel working for my previous employer.
