The use of him as the focus of the commercial signifies what can be known as a “perfect male”. Mustafa is physically attractive and embodies what traditional masculinity is known for. The essay “Happy Meals and the Old Spice Guy” by Joanna Weiss focuses on the effects marketing tactics and advertising have on an average consumer. According to Weiss, advertising is not just limited to basic commercials and ads, but they also rely heavily on store placement, packaging, and associations of the brand. The article “Like me, Want me, Buy me, Eat me” by Sandra C Jones, Nadia Mannino and Julia Green also discusses deceptive marketing techniques. As stated before throughout the video during Isaiah Mustafa’s monologue he speaks with a strong and firm voice in such an authoritative way as if he was speaking to a child, when in fact he is only speaking to women in the commercial. In the theory of masculinity the ideal man most always have control and power over women. Another way that the commercial further proves the studies of gender socialization was the avoidance of acting feminine. In the beginning of the commercial he states “If your man stopped using lady scented body wash he could smell like me.” He is insinuating that using anything but Old Spice will make you smell like a women, which means you are not a man that is desired by women.…

This expression makes it seem like males have no emotion, which society often defines as a characteristic of males. The two advertisements in this section portray two men in different ways. The first one depicts an African American man standing with hands on his hips and staring, while the other shows a muscular man leaning against a wall with the words “take me” attached. The staring and their toned bodies make them appear masculine, but their postures invite the viewer to think of them as slightly feminine. The appearance is where the consumerism comes in, these advertisements were made to attract straight men and women, but also gay males.…

Prevailing over a print ad in Glamour magazine’s June 2016 issue is a sultry Johnny Depp and a bottle of Dior’s new Sauvage cologne (Sauvage, Dior). Depp is not dressed up as any of the outlandish characters he has played, but in all black and the usual gaudy jewelry he is known for. Penetratingly looking to the right, he stands with an air of confidence and seems to be rolling up his sleeve giving him a sense of masculinity.…

The high energy text message in bold letter “let battle commence” is to capture a man’s attention. This is based on the fact that men require less persuasion and fewer words to take immediate action, and a direct tone using staccato action words is more likely to impress men. As viewers, we are susceptible to this idea of a male vs. female stereotype, and in exploiting this division; the ad is successful in explicitly targeting men as the desired audience. The general appearance of this ad is sharp and bold, which successfully targets male…

Conclusions and Recommendations: Pacific Grove Spice Company is currently unable to comply with the bank's requirements with their current financial performance. However, Pacific should choose a few options to meet these requirements: first, they should acquire High Country Seasonings for $13.2 million since this is well below the $18 million book value of their equity, and the total value of the company would increase from the financial statements' consolidation. In addition, Pacific should issue 400,000 new shares of common stock to the investment group to have money for funding the cooking television show. By financing the production and sponsorship of the show, Pacific will be able to meet the bank's regulations and reduce its total debt to less than 55% of its total assets and also reduce the equity multiplier to 2.5.…
