First Individual Counseling Session

Counselor met with Pt. for the first individual counseling session in order to develop a therapeutic alliance and trust. Counselor and Pt. discussed her progress in recovery, his medication compliance and side effects, any personal concern and/or problems. Pt. reported that she has been dealing with cravings. Pt. indicated that his current prescribed medication is working. Pt. is currently taking 70 mg of methadone and she wants to increase her dose to 70 mg because she feels that her prescribed med is wearing off late at night. Pt. reported that he is not dealing with any suicidal ideation or mental health issues at this moment. Counselor asked Pt. if she has used drugs since the last session, which she replied no. Counselor asked her if she would you like to pursue new activities or hobbies and if she would like to work on grief during the next individual session or by attending anger management groups which she replied agreed. Pt. informed this writer that she wants to go to church more often. Counselor provided support and feedback as she described her feelings of grief associated with the death of her mother. Counselor prompted Pt. to talk about what she does during her free time because most people in recovery relapse when dealing with boredom. Pt. commented that she spends most of her free time cleaning her house, doing laundry, swinging and exercising. Pt. said that when she isn’t cleaning house she likes to take her son to the pool. At the end of the session, Counselor talked about the fact that she made the decision to pay and sign up to participate in the treatment process and she needs to take advance of the different AMS groups. Counselor recommended that she attend grief group and art group.
