Witness watched Harry Potter when he crashed
A preliminary investigation has begun in a fatal car crash that involved a Tesla S, in self-driving mode, and a tractor-trailer. Witnesses report that the driver watched a Harry Potter movie as he crashed according to the Detroit Free Press. After leaving his car parked at the side of a rode, Jared Overton went inside for five minutes. When he returned to his vehicle, Overton had found that the car had driven itself into the back of a flatbed truck. Overton reported the issue to Tesla. One week later, he received a letter from the company claiming it was his fault.
After Tesla reviewed the vehicle’s logs, they concluded that three seconds after Overton exited the car and closed the door, the Summon function, which enables a Tesla vehicle to park itself, initiated, due to driver error.
Overton disputed the findings, saying he had put the vehicle in park and did not believe he ever initiated the self-park function. In addition, he stood outside of the vehicle for over 20 seconds discussing the car with another man. So, whatever transpired with the computer clearly happened after three seconds suggests
