It is hard to give an exact answer as for the nature of the first impression: whether it is deceptive, and maybe vice versa - the most correct. Here, it all depends on the person, on the nature and degree of the development of intuition. Perhaps I will take myself to the last, and I would say that the first impression is often deceiving. After finishing the English 101 course I feel like I have accomplished many of the goals that I was challenged with the beginning of the course, such as critically thinking and reading with text from the textbook “Dialogues” by Gary Goshgarian, substantively replying to my peers to understand their point of views from the text and to get a better understanding of a rhetorical argument. Thinking and reading critically were very important this whole course. Thinking and reading critically were something you would have to do in every assignment that was given. Incorporating it in every assignment has helped us greatly improve week by week and betters our understanding of each topic and the assignments main idea.…

A first impression of an individual is very important because it affects how that person is treated and viewed. Although first impressions are important and ground breaking, they can often be as misleading as they are helpful in regards to figuring someone out. In Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston, a character named Joe Starks is a good example of how first impressions can be deceiving. At first glance, Joe seems like a standup guy who wants to take Janie away from a poor situation, and start a town and help it grow. Although seemingly very noble, his kindness and supportiveness wear off.…

Everyone hates English class is what I thought before taking English 102. However, that may have been the case before I entered Dr. Byrd’s domain, but after finishing the class I have come to the realization that English class can be greatly resourceful. English 102 this year has had its ups and downs, and I must admit the ups outweigh the downs. Meaning, this year, I have learned that I am not a student who wants to read or write, but through reading and writing my mind and skill sets concerning English have grown. During English 102 this year, reading and writing in class helped me expand my writing skills, improved my will to comprehend, and most importantly helped expand my knowledge.…

In the past, my educational experience relied heavily on being present five days out of the week and listening to an hour to an hour and a half lectures. Reviews were abundant during lectures causing me to learn at a decreased pace. Stopping became commonplace so everyone had a chance to catch up in their notes or schoolwork declining the already diminishing pace. I was, usually, barred from continuing ahead due to teachers wanting the students all on the same page or because the next lesson wasn’t even decided yet. This all (thankfully) changed with my transferring of high school to college.…
