First Emotional Intelligence Assessment

On my first emotional intelligence assessment, on a scale of 1-10, I scored a 6 on self-awareness, 10 on self-management, 9 on social-awareness, and a 6 on relationship management.

I would say I that I disagree with the self-awareness part of the quiz because I am extremely aware of my emotions. I feel as if the quiz was based on whether or not the quiz taker bases decisions off of their emotion and not if they are aware of said emotion. For instance, if I am assigned to do something

Emotional intelligence is the ability to manage emotions in such a way that promotes positive outcomes in one’s life. Emotional intelligence also refers to a specific set of cognitive abilities associated with emotions. Intelligence is defined by Wechsler as “the aggregate or global capacity to of the individual to act purposefully, to think rationally, and to deal effectively with his or her environment.” (pg. 2). Based off of Wechsler’s definition of intelligence, I do consider emotional intelligence (EI) to be a true form of intelligence, because accurately managing one’s emotions is vital towards acting purposefully, thinking rationally, and dealing with his/her environment.…

This score did not surprise me because understanding and reading people’s emotions has always been an asset of mine. In social and some professional settings I am able to have an overall sense of how people are feeling and not take their feelings personally. It is easy to see someone’s emotions and think you influenced them, but I am able to take a step back and dig deeper into those feelings. My lowest score was a 67 under Personal Competence for Self-Management. I was expecting scores in the mid 70-90 rang for the both the Self and Social Competence category.…

Although this is not the first time taking an assessment like this, I am surprised my outcome has greatly improved. My score was 99, which for me means that I too have grown as a person. In the past I would hold strongly to my opinions and was not able to agree with others opinions or understand their worldview. However, for me with age and some hard life lessons I have had to learn how to listen more effectively as well, accept feedback, and respect others worldviews.…

My score for the how important do I make people feel assessment was a 47. I agree the interpretation that suggests that I typically make people feel important, but there is always room for improvement. I still get jealous from time to time of the accomplishments and opportunities that people get to be a part of, but I generally try to make sure that I check myself before my ego flares up. When I was younger I had a bad habit of tearing people down when I was envious of them, but I have worked extremely hard in my adult years to really uplift people let them have there moment when it comes. My answers were based on how I felt that day. I think my emotions and behaviors vary at different points in my life. If the questionnaire was specific to situations then I think there wouldn’t be a variation of results.
