He brutally murders the guards who were already drunk and passed out thanks to Lady Macbeth. It’s as if Lady Macbeth got the guards so drunk that they passed out for a reason. Maybe to keep the guards out of Macbeths way of killing the late King. While everyone was gathered grieving the late King, Macbeth out of nowhere comes from somewhere breathing as if he was running. When asked what’s has happened to the guards he responded “Oh, yet I do repent me of my fury, That I did kill them.” (2.3.101-108) The way he sounded made him seem like he killed them because everyone was thinking the guards murdered Duncan.
