My First Cornerstone Class Reflection

Improved Essays
Through this semester I’ve explored a lot of resources and helpful information that my First Cornerstone class has provided to me. I’ve found very helpful resources such as Awato, it’s an online career information system that matches interests and aptitudes with degree programs and careers, it also provides a customized roadmap to help you achieve your career goals. This website has helped me find my interests, inclinations and values to help me find my career path since to me it seems very difficult to find. Another resource that First Cornerstone has provided to me (that hopefully can help me find my career path) is the Noel Levits survey, this survey helped me point out my weaknesses and my interests, not only that but the opportunity to …show more content…
Regarding a subject I have trouble with, step by step hands on demonstrations work better for me; listening and visualizing helps me catch on to the topic or demonstration more then reading or listening while learning. My learning style shows how much more consideration I need to have on educating myself on how to adapt to other types of learning styles, not only to feel more comfortable with other sorts but to also avoid difficulty learning.
In the Noel Levitz assessment I learned things that I never thought I would be scored on, such as “use of technology”, this was one of my highest scores on the Academic Motivation section of the survey, one that I never thought would be one of my highest scores since I’ve never pictured myself frequently working on a computer in my future career. The VARK assessment really helped me point out the type of learner I am and also showed me different ways I could try to utilize while

MCC has a lot of resources for students and their journey, resources I think would best benefit me are the academic success center, websites that help you find your interest in a certain career path, tutoring…etc, which I very much look forward to trying. One of the biggest resources to me that I personally think will be very helpful is talking to an advisor about my concerns and hopefully having my worries go

Over the course of this semester I learned a lot about myself as a writer. This English 1010 class has really allowed me to expand my essay structure and ways of thinking. When I first started this course, I was scared and didn’t really know what to expect. I branched out to different styles and types of essays as well as incorporating outside sources into my work. When I received my first essay back with the feedback and the grade, I realized that I was not a really good writer.…

Initially, I was aware that I am an auditory learner before taking the learning style assessment. However, I also assumed that I would score higher as a visual learner on the questionnaire. According to my learning style results, I scored a total of thirty-two points for auditory preferences for learning, compared to my scoring for both visual and tactile learning style that resulted in twenty-six points. After evaluating my assessment, I can recall from my past experiences in several of my science courses, where I used auditory learning style more during class lectures compared to visual style. To clarify, and as stated in my previous journal entries, before changing my major to health sciences, I was a radiology major.…

For my portfolio, I compiled my best writing pieces from this class into one folder. I chose which works were the best not based on grade alone, but on how they represent my writing style and how it has evolved and progressed throughout the course of this semester. I chose one timed, 500 word, in-class essay, my best personal essay, my best out-of-class essay with MLA documentation, and my best paper with an annotated bibliography. In this short essay I will explain why each of these represent me as a writer and show growth in my writing experience.…

Not all learning styles can fit into a specific situation, there are times when a kinesthetic style is better than an aural. By becoming proficient in all learning styles, I would become flexible in all learning situations. The student should be able to shift towards the professors teaching styles in addition to exceling in their learning environment. Now, I work the best with the aural, kinesthetic, and read/write learning styles, with the weakest like being the visual learning style. By taking the content learned to the next level by shifting it across learning styles, I would gain a greater understanding towards it.…

My 3-practicum placements have provided me with different, but great learning experiences. I was able to practice what I have been learning in my other college courses in my practicums. In all my practicums, I was able to build positive relationships with each student and teacher-supervisors that I interacted with. I have worked in a grade 4, grade 1, and now a grade 3 classroom. As I assisted in each classroom I was able to learn what my teacher-supervisors would expect from their educational assistant.…

There was no significant (P > 0.05) difference in academic performance among the five learning preferences: visual, aural, read/ write, kinesthetic and multimodal. This finding is in disagreement with Felder (1993), who is one of few researchers to report that an association exists between 90 Victor Mlambo a student’s learning preference, teaching style and academic performance. Apart from Felder’s work, there is a general lack of experimental evidence to support the effectiveness of aligning instruction methods with learning preferences. The lack of association between learning preferences and academic performance in this study could either be a result of the VARK® questionnaire failing to accurately assess the learning preferences (and hence failing to place students into distinct learning preference categories) of the students or a reflection of a teaching style that encompasses different delivery methods such that none of the learning preferences were disadvantaged. Table 5.…
