Verse 24 employs the analogy of a running event; there are many people competing with differ-ent abilities, ages and motives (one runner could be running for a charity or for a personal victory) with the single mind-set of being the first to complete the event. Verse 25 delves in to the prepa-rations of competing in such an event, the training that is involved. To summarize 1st Corinthians chapter 9, verses 24-27, is to say that to best serve God, one needs to have a plan, to train ones faith as well as body and mind.
