What is the message in 1st Corinthians? From a cursory viewpoint the passage could be talking about the mindset to compete in a running event, be it a short race or a marathon; the prize re-ceived is an illusion; temporary in its existence. However there is another prize mentioned that is more permanent and takes as much preparation to go the distance.
Verse 24 employs the analogy of a running event; there are many people competing with differ-ent abilities, ages and motives (one runner could be running for a charity or for a personal victory) with the single mind-set of being the first to complete the event. Verse 25 delves in to the prepa-rations of competing in such an event, the training that is involved. The training more than likely includes a special diet, which by implication means a protein shake over ice cream- there is an el-ement of self-denial. The end result? A prize that would only bring a transitory sense

To train the biology and the psychological to withstand the rigors of spreading the word to as many people as possible. While at the same time making sure that more earthly responsibilities (such as career, family and health) are being met. The en-durance gained by a little self-sacrifice and treating life like a marathon will prepare one to enjoy a little more the attaining of the prize
To summarize 1st Corinthians chapter 9, verses 24-27, is to say that to best serve God, one needs to have a plan, to train ones faith as well as body and mind. Moreover, while it is possible to ob-tain the prize in a haphazard fashion, the time and energy wasted leads to compliancy and makes it easier to leave discipline behind and follow a more hedonistic path. Additionally, one must command one’s body to complete what needs to be done in order that in the manner of helping others one does not let their own needs be

Therefore, 4:9-4:13 shows through illustrative metaphor and figurative language what Paul’s vision of discipleship is, and what sort of imitation (mimesis) he is calling the Corinthians to live out. Castelli argues Paul’s mimesis and father language in 4:14-21 is used to maintain hierarchy and social order. However, Paul’s description of apostolic suffering for the sake of Christ is actually opposite the sort of world view metropolitan city Corinth held at the time. Dale Martin argues it is this portrait of lowly, suffering apostolic life in 4:9-13 that sets up Paul’s claim to fatherhood and mimesis in 4:14-21. The former section advocates for a position of “low status”, which is what Paul uses his role as an authoritative figure to ask them to imitate.…

Ethical Dilemmas The use of performance enhancing drugs has been an issue for our society as early as the 1960’s. Performance enhancing drugs are used to gain an advantage over one’s competitors. The National Football League and National League Baseball were some of the first major organization to start testing their players for steroids (Performance Enhancing Drugs, 2016). These drugs are so widely banned and morally frowned upon; the athletes who still chose to use them do so in secret.…

In my opinion, we (if not all but most) are more like Corinthians. We tend to judge the individual according to how he or she looks, status, power and success. Per identify some aspects that similar to Corinthians: wealthy or poor, educated or non-educated, positions of authority or positions of the subordination. For example, the Corinthians categorized their social status: when they met to celebrate the Lord’s Supper—some were eating well and even became drunk, whereas the poor members of the community were being left out and going hungry, which took place during a meal. For us—our society, generally we can find that the super wealthy people live in “amazing” constructed territory.…

History The place of Corinth has a reputation for corruption in every way. The Apostle Paul wrote extensive and detailed letters to correct the church he founded. Corinth had rich (but uneven) plains, and the soil of an indifferent quality. It was a place of trade and was a bridge place of two seas; therefore, making trade and imports heavy within the area.…
