The members of the First Church of Cannabis in Indianapolis gathered on Wednesday for the pot-smoking church’s first holy service.
The inaugural service of the First Church of Cannabis happened on the same day that Indiana’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) took effect. The church’s congregation consisted of people wearing colorful shirts with pictures of marijuana leaves, the Christian Science Monitor details.
Police officers stood outside the church in anticipation of a rowdy service. However, the Indianapolis Star reported that the service was rather unremarkable and was comparable to a concert or a trip to the beach. Church members danced around as the song “Mary Jane” was played and some members testified about their pot experiences.

Spanish Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church 1. What happened during the services? I arrived at the church a few minutes prior to the service and I was greatly surprised by how well attended the service was. At the entrance there was a small dipping well and although there was no water in it at the moment, (most likely due to the sizeable crowd) people still placed their fingers in the dry well and crossed themselves before entering the chapel and before sitting, they would cross themselves again.…

Do you think about the positives and how it helps people get through the day or do you just think about the “stoners” or the “abusers”? Williams believes that the faith of the community is seen in what they do, and adding a verse to the police car is another reflection of this. So far, the town has received good feedback for the action, but they are prepared for opposition. This past Sunday I had the pleasure of attending the Risen Savior Church which is an Anglican denomination. This church does not establish a certain religion but focuses on the Apostles and old Christian Fathers teachings. Going to this church, I did not know what to expect because I had never reached out to a church that was not in my comfort zone. This church was different from my church because it was based off an opening and closing rite, along with laid back music. The Church I attend has up to date songs, that are upbeat with a bigger population of people.…

Those include reasoning and groundation. The first is a discussion with Jah, wherein a small group of men gather and pass marijuana around in a clockwise direction as they smoke together (Barnett, 2002; Onuora, 2013). The man of honor initiates the ceremony by lighting the marijuana and making a statement (Onuora, 2013). Discussion then continues, as the men in the circle, one by one, consider liberation, justice, spiritualism, and social reform, building on and critiquing the statements that have already been offered by those before them (Barnett, 2002; Onuora, 2013). Groundation is a holy celebration consisting of dancing, singing, and feasting, in addition to smoking, which commemorates holy days and can last up to a week (Onuora, 2013).…

Catholic worship is extremely different from what I experience within a Baptist worship service. Since I was just a little girl I have always only attended Baptist churches, this project expanded my religious encounter as I attended a Catholic mass a previous Sunday. I attended a sunrise service at St Madeleine Catholic Church in High Springs with a customer of mine from my workplace while I typically attend Westside Baptist Church in Gainesville with my family. Within the worship I couldn’t help but to notice the tremendous amount of differential ways of worship and rituals. As I have only been to Baptist churches I was not sure what I was walking in to, but attending a Catholic mass opened up my religious thoughts toward other forms of religious…
