While reading this article there were many mix emotions that occurred. These emotions occurred during every page, a different emotion for each page. The emotions such as confusion, sadness, furious, and relief. After this article it reminded me about a little girl had a similar story. The girls name is Genie; in her story she went through similar situations as Mary Ellen. They both faced abuse and neglect from their parents. The stories are both terrifying and should be mentioned more in classes. It is important to know about these stories because as myself, I did not know about the Mary Ellen case before it was mentioned. I believe there are several people around that are unaware on the impaction of the case. Also the impaction of other similar cases has on peoples’ behavior on how to prevent abuse or to be aware of signs of abuse. …show more content…
It made me think about the many silenced cases of abuse that occurred before the case. It also me question, why it took so long for children to gain laws of protection. I found it so amusing how animals had these laws first. I also did not understand why neighbors stood quiet perhaps they were scared of getting involved. Maybe they did not know what to do in these types of cases. I believe that does not justify them for being silent and not taking any actions. For instance, I think its hard to believe that there was only a neighbor that heard the abuse. A part I do not understand is how no one else did not notice that Mary Ellen never left home. It broke my heart to read Mary Ellen’s statement she told to the judge. It’s another reason why I want to help prevent these types of abuse and neglect. I hope that I will be able to take many children away from these type of environments and try to make their lives

Etta Wheeler, a concerned, caring woman did not relent in her struggle to rescue the child … Mary Ellen was removed from the home … was adopted by a new family and with the nurturing she received, began to thrive” (Krupinski & Weikel, 1986, p. 98). Another famous preschool abuse case is Fort Bragg preschool, also in California. Similar accusations were made in this case as with the McMartin case, but on top of all of the McMartin accusations, teachers and staff members were also accused of having children being buried in coffins, being tortured with water, being forced to perform mock marriages with other students as well as the devil, having medical operations where the teacher would “take out” the children's hearts and place something else inside the body usually something with a negative or satanic connotation, and being hung upside down or tied up over a “star” or pentagram, the symbol of satanists. Also similar to the McMartin case, people believed all of these accusations were fake or make believe; however, proving this case was slightly different than proving the McMartin trial.…

Weeping in the Playtime of Others In reading Weeping in the Playtime of Others: America’s Incarcerated Children by Kenneth Wooden, I learned about the devastating, heartbreaking truths about how corrupt our juvenile legal system is. I knew there was probably some violence within the facilities, but I didn’t realize the extent of the torture and physical abuse the youth experienced within in the juvenile correctional facilities across America. I was shocked by the amount of youth that weren’t actually what we would consider criminals. These children were incarcerated because they were emotionally disturbed, mentally handicapped or because they ran away from home to escape a bad situation.…

For my reaction on a trial hearing, I decided to write about the Larry Nassar's Sex Abuse Case. The reasoning on why I chose this specific case was because how it dealt with issues of sexual abuse, female empowerment, and how justice was finally served. This case was brought into the mainstream news because the amount of individuals affected by this case and how it occurred for so long without any consequences. I saw this case as groundbreaking because Nassar was properly punished for all his wrongdoings and it opened the conversation of how sexual assault needs to be spoke about in order to bring it to an endstopped.…

Introduction: I am writing my Decision-Making Report over the need of the importance in learning to be able see the early signs of neglected or abused and what do at a child care facility or in a school. My main audience is the State of Texas Education. The reason I will write to this group of audience is because every school, day care facility should know and understand why it’s important to know the symptoms and know what should be done if a child is being neglected or abuse. While convincing the State of Texas Education about the problem with neglect and abuse, I will also talk about 3 possibilities there are for addressing/solving this problem. The Little Prisoner by Jane Elliott This book was a powerful if not over powering story of a child whose step father abused her on every level of abuse; physical, mental, sexual, and emotional. The author of this book Jane, a pseudonym for the actual child, made the book come full circle. It started in the court room and was brought back to that pivotal moment when she is forced to face her attacker as an adult. It shows the reader the reaction of someone who clearly has no understanding the effects the child abuse Jane endured because the officer treated her like she was overreacting.…
