This is a story of a local church, the “United Baptist Church,” located in a little village also called Walijo, Kaduna state of Nigeria, West Africa. The building of this church is like some of the Old Testament accounts. Much more like the time of Moses and the children of Israel in the wilderness. When God spoke to Moses to summon the people and he asked that every one of them participated in the construction of the tent in the service of the Lord. Life is not as easy as just speaking words, people may be effortless toward everything and only a few will like to learn new things. For this, grandfather was pleased when he found out that they were Christians, this encouraged him to reach out to people to help build a church for them. However, little did he know that these men cared more about their businesses than anything. Nevertheless, grandfather remained steadfast, he called out to his people and they all came out to support the building of the church. These people traveled miles to Walijo to help, therefore, “First Baptist Church Walijo,” being the first church there. Through the grace of God, these two businessmen and their family came to accept Jesus Christ there and served in the church to this day. It was pleasant to grandfather, Anthony when his son, Samuel, told him that he was going to the Bible seminary to become a pastor. It has always been a fascinating journey, a few years later, God blessed the church with young people. The church is complete, they were active in youth fellowship, choir, Royal Ambassadors’, women’s, and men’s fellowship. At this point, the church is already making plans for a bigger building. The members came together, everyone according to their abilities and field of professions, and they have all the building materials ready. After the first pastor has retired, instantly, another pastor came in, with few years of his service, the new church is built. Again, the people came together to build, women helped with fetching water, moving the blocks and cooking, youth and men with helped with the building walls and roofing. After building the church, they came together and prayed for the opening of the new building, it was then that they change the name to “The United Baptist Church Walijo.” That is not all, the church gave birth to four Pastors who now serve in their various stations and more potentials young people with hope and great expectations. “The United Baptist Church” is no longer just a branch but a tree that bears fruit and has become a shelter for many
