According to the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, it seems as though Paul is being discriminated against. This Amendment states that companies are not able to interfere with free exercise of religion and that people are able to choose “when, and where to worship” (Moran, 2014, p. 340). It has been explained that Paul is an atheist, therefore he is protected under the Title VII and religion is a protected class. Also, with the Title VII, employers are not able to refuse to hire an individual based on their religious preferences. According to Tappero (2017), an employee cannot be forced to participate, or not participate in a religious activity as a condition of employment. It is also considered as improper for an employer to take any negative action towards a person because of their religious choices.
