Airplane; a powered flying vehicle with fixed wings and a weight greater than that of the air it displaces. Airplanes to many are just aircrafts able to get them from point A to point B. They are also known to fly through the air for military uses. We all know what they are, but do we ever take the time to think about how they ever came around and who was able to invent such a great invention? On December 17, 1903, Orville and Wilber Wright were the first people ever to fly a gasoline powered, propeller-driven airplane. Though the plane was only in the air for twelve seconds and flew 120 feet, it was a very important moment in history that influenced new inventions and people both in and outside of the country ("First Airplane Flies" Par. …show more content…
Throughout the whole world, their successes may have been underappreciated and others even failed to believe it happened right when it happened. At 10:35 in the morning, five people witnessed the first flight ("First Airplane Flies" Par. 1). Though this is not many, there was no word on the flight ever happening because it was in Kitty Hawk. At the time, Kitty Hawk was just a beach that was very isolated. They chose it as the place to fly because not only was there not much around, but because the wind there would be able to add lift to the plane. Because also there was not much around, they were able to conduct tests without others finding out. Which may explain why there were only five people there at the …show more content…
What the brothers were able to make was the basis for all airplanes meaning they still had a ways to go. While they were developing their airplanes, they kept a low profile. This was so they were able to get contracts with others to use their type of plane. Another reason they kept their accomplishment so secretive was so they were able to get patents on it. If they had not of kept it a secret there was a risk that someone could have stole their ideas and patented them themselves. Even after they achieved their goal of the first airplane, they bettered the airplane and improved what they could have just left alone.

Not only was the airplane an interesting and fun invention, but one that benefitted others as well. An airplane had many advantages and uses for many people around the world. It benefitted ordinary citizens and even the military. Before the airplane really became popular, they had to be able to sell it to others and tell the buyers why it would be a good purchase towards what they were doing. Even though it was not easy, they were able to persuade others to start and help us get where we are

Most popular images of World War I show soldiers in muddy trenches and dugouts, living miserably until the next attack. Technological developments in engineering, chemistry, and optics had produced weapons deadlier than anything before. The power of defensive weapons made winning the war on the western front all but impossible for either side. Airplanes, products of the new technology, were primarily made of canvas, wood, and wire. At first they were used only to observe enemy troops.…

Ever since I was a little kid, planes have always stolen my attention away. When riding in a car with the windows down I would pretend my hand was a plane in the wind and for those brief moments I was the captain of the plane. My whole life I grew up in Olathe, Kansas in a medium size home with my older sister who is named Ashley and my mom and dad (Mallery and William). My dad is the one who introduced my life to aviation; since he was in the military I would see the huge aircraft and helicopters almost all the time. The men and women who flew those awe-inspiring machines always looked so…

The years between World War I and World War II experienced great advances in aviation in the types of aircraft and the materials used to build them. When World War I concluded, the United States had a surplus of military airplanes and pilots who were eager to demonstrate…

Thus, by the early 1900 's, automobiles were still in their early stages even though they were first developed in 1867, but in an embryonic form, nevertheless. Likewise, aircraft had their beginning in the early twentieth century. The famous Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur, first flew their Wright Flyer in December of 1903. Even though this innovation was very new, practical applications of it were being sought in same decade. According to David Chenoweth, “In December 1907, the U.S. Army issued Signal Corps Specification Number 486, an advertisement for a heavier-than-air flying machine” (6).…
