Firmin Didot Essay

Didot was created by Firmin Didot. Didot typeface was developed in the period 1784. Firmin Didot was a French printer, engraver, and type founder. Another seeing what John Baskerville designed. Firmin Didot was inspired by John Baskerville, first transitional typeface called Baskerville. That was when Firmin Didot decided to design his own typeface. Didot font was considered as the first Modern typeface. It has high contrast between thick and thin strokes, thin serifs with no joining, and vertical stress in rounded strokes.
Thirty years later, the typeface Bodoni was created by Giambattista Bodoni. He was an Italian typographer, type-designer, compositor, printer and publisher in Parma. Bodoni was created in the late eighteenth century. Giambattista Bodoni admired the work of John Baskerville. He loved it some much that he studied the designs of French type founders Pierre Simon Fournier and Firmin Didot to the very last detail. With all the inspiration Giambattista Bodoni gets from Pierre Simon Fournier and Firmin Didot but most of the inspiration came from Firmin Didot.
