A central Pennsylvania fire department is raising awareness about domestic violence by driving a purple firetruck.
With October being domestic violence awareness month, the Newburg Fire Company in Logan Township, PA decide to help raise awareness by driving around a purple firetruck. Newburg Fire Company EMT Tory Schwarze said even though there are other purple firetrucks, “it's the only one in the nation that is dedicated to domestic violence awareness.”
Although the firetruck is not in service, the fire company takes it out to community events and school activities. When the children see the firetruck, “most of them say why the purple is supposed to be red” Schwarze said. Once the children start talking about the color, “it opens a good
