It begins with only a subtle murmur, yet this faint inclination proceeds unceasingly to a deepset rumble from over the hillside- its enthralling(/captivating?), knowing its coming, that anticipation of awe. It comes now thundering into sight, a great steel workhorse of such immense magnitude- it convinces even the iron rails upon which it rides to sing and arc with stresses. It barges past, its mechanical heart pounding out a relentless beat, reverberating even the air within your throat- as it rushes forth, imbued with authority and momentum, carrying what appears to be endless miles of clanking freight. From as far back as my memory stretches, I have been perpetually and intrinsically fascinated with mechanical power and structure …show more content…
I would ask if they would like a tour, but they always knew the way. (incorporate saudade?) They would wander about the ship, tracing arthritic fingers over familiar, now pitted, surfaces- their sonorous eyes reflecting great tales of trial and tribulation, of tragedy and triumph, of life and death upon these rusted decks. And it is profound,, and it convinced me more so than ever exactly what I’ve always sought to do- to build the future, to design and construct the future’s creations, for as life rolls on, the next generation must take the …show more content…
For hours on end I find myself organizing data streams into comprehensible graphs for naught but the satisfaction of creating order from chaos. I have thrown myself into FIRST Robotics, collaborating towards a greater effort, designing, creating, working with my peers doing what I have always felt was part of me to do. After attending FRC World Championships in St. Louis as an uncommon female Team Captain, I have seen the future that waits ahead, but yet I have seen the past that lingers

Warning signs of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and firefighter suicide Fire department officers that present information on warning signs of suicide and PTSD to their firefighters will reduce the amount of affected firefighters by these two behavior issues each year. Warning signs are designed for family, and coworkers, however, they could also be for friends. Warning signs can just be another tool to protect our firefighters, time is going by so fast that co-workers do not recognize that their fellow firefighter may be acquiring thoughts of suicide or post-traumatic stress disorder. To provide help quicker to these firefighters- co-workers, supervisors, and possibly management should have a good idea of how this firefighter acts normally…

A large portion of my volunteer time is dedicated to coaching my school’s First Lego League team. FLL is a robotics program where team members learn to create computer programs, effective engineering principals, and build problem solving skills. Our team meets twice a week for three hours after school to focus on solving a set of challenges given to us by the competition. In addition to our weekly meeting times I have continued to build my own understanding of robotics and the FLL program at various meetings of FLL coaches throughout the state. This dedication to helping Cottonwood’s FLL team succeed really paid off when we advanced to the state championship as a rookie team!…

Upwards, your lungs craving air; the muscles in your body ache as you emerge up to the surface. Take a breath, feel the air rush back into your lungs, colour rush back into your cheeks. You were dying - only for a moment, but you were drifting away, being engulfed into the murky darkness. It will happen again, someday. Everyone gives in at the end, they claw at the water, resist with the small ounce of energy they have left, hold on the lonely drop of hope in all their minds despair; but sooner or later their eyes roll back, they feel nothing but numbness, they let the water take them, pull them, drag them down like it did to all the other lonely souls that were once just like you.…

Robotics and computer based programs with any frame of intelligence has saturated our popular culture since the early twentieth century. Artificial Intelligence would either be our reckoning or create a convenient life in Utopia. Lost in Space, The Jetsons, and Star Trek all showcase life in the future, a future created around robotics and simulated computer programs. A prime example of this hopeful Utopian future was Walt Disney’s creation of Tomorrowland (PBS). It imbued the hopeful wish of a mechanized robotic lifestyle and nothing spoke more fervently of this than kitchens of the future.…

In this song we fast forward about twenty years and we get to hear from the black community on the issue of racism in the pre-civil rights era in the south. The imagery in this song paints a very vivid picture of how the black community viewed their surroundings. The song as a whole compares the romanticized view of the South with its dark cultural reality. In the second stanza, the song begins by describing the South as “gallant” filled with scent of sweet and fresh scent of magnolia.…

It sighed as it halted beside him. It was like a serpent in the sense of its length, but for its shape, the serpent would have to be attempting to digest a handful of boxes. “No, scratch that,” he thought to himself,“it just looks like a train. But if it is a train, where is its steam whistle, its smokebox, or its chimney. And most importantly, why does it not have a smiling face at the front?”…

Personal Statement Ive always had an interest in how things operate and work since I was young, and cars have always been one of my favorite interests. My interest in cars, particularly BMW’s, has developed throughout my time working with my father. Last year I took part in four automotive based competitions, working alongside my team mates to rebuild and engine, tune a performance system, and diagnose vehicles problems.
