On 02-23-18 at approximately 1700 hours, I arrested and transported Ramon Richard Arvizu to the Pasadena Jail for booking (Under PPD Case #18002500). It should be noted that I have had several police contacts with Arvizu on the west hillside on State Street and Railroad Street near the Pasadena Power Plant. Arvizu had a transient encampment set up and was living on the above hill for several weeks. Upon my arrival to the Pasadena Jail, I asked Arvizu if he knew anything about the fire which occurred at the bottom of the hill where he was living, on 12-08-17. Both Craig Womack’s novel “Drowning in Fire” and Gloria Anzaldúa’s semi-autobiographical work “Borderlands” explore the intersection between queer and Indian identities. One specific way that Womack and Anzaldúa focus on these identities is through the tension between native religions and Christianity in the lives of modern natives.
