The Fire Fighter I choose to interview for my term project is Andrew Huizinga I picked him because I work at Fitness 19 and we’ve talked about me becoming a fire fighter and he has given me a lot of advice on what to do. Andrew was in the coast guard for 4 years then he went to school for engineering at Cal Poly.
The first set of questions I asked Andrew were about the fire academy and why he wanted to become a fire fighter. The first question I asked Andrew was when and why did he decided to become a fire fighter? He said “My friend helped me get a job doing paid calls for the fire department in Yucaipa”. The first question I asked him for these set of questions was “What did you do to prepare yourself for the interview?”. His response was “It starts with building up your resume and it takes a lot of practice like videotaping yourself and you should be clean shaved with a suit and tie appearance is big and look up the history of the department and know it”. What he said was practically the same thing the book suggested the only difference was looking up the history of department. The seconded question I asked him from this set of questions is “Why do you think team work is so important in the fire service” he said “It’s a dangerous job and you have to be able to relay on other people or someone could die you also have to be a team player and put your needs aside or others”. I agree team work is really important and people should be able to voice their opinion or someone could get hurt if they don’t. The last question I asked him from the seconded set of questions was “What are some of the important traits a firefighter must possess?” and he told me that integrity is a big part because you’re going into random people’s houses and you got to be trusted to not take anything. Andrew also said physical fitness is also important because your carrying 45 pounds on your back and if your partner goes down you’ve got to be able to carry him out of a burning
