The bright orange light of the sunset filled my eyes through the smudged glass of the car window. I stared out the window at the barren never ending fields, as I had been for the past hour and a half. I was nine years old. My dad, mom, sister, brother, and I were squished into what felt like a clown car. We were on our way to the sacred place we go to around late summer every year. It was my favorite place. We finally arrived, after what felt like centuries, to the enormous dam that severed the lake into a rushing river. I knew we were there. Time went even slower as we approached the shed-like office of the camp grounds. My dad exchanged a few words with the workers before taking off into the populated campsite. We searched carefully at …show more content…
We piled our branches in the fire pit, and my dad got to work. My mom helped set up a s’more making station for us kids. I grabbed the sharp metal stick and slid a jumbo fluffy marshmallow through it. I stuck it over the blazing fire straight into the embers. I lifted it into the air to check its status to see that it was on fire, just how I liked it. I blew the flames out and smacked the marshmallow onto the cold chocolate bar and smashed the graham crackers together. When the rest of my family finished roasting their marshmallows, we all stuffed our faces unable to talk due to the stickiness of the marshmallow clamping our mouths shut. The only thing that could be heard was the attempts to scrape the gooey mess from the roofs of our mouths. My dad put out the fire and we all cram packed into the tents, me being sandwiched between my fidgeting siblings. I slept soundly with the sounds of crickets and wind filling my …show more content…
To me, they resembled Mount Everest peaking at 29,000 feet, but to others they were no more than ten to fifteen feet high. I was terrified. My dad, being the adrenaline junkie that he is, sprinted and leaped right off the cliffs into the murky water below. My sister followed; then my brother. My mother; however, showed no interest in jumping down like the rest of them, and instead sat towards the base of the cliff and watched. Before I knew it, it was my turn. I could hear the screams of joy coming from my siblings below me. I was standing in the middle of the large rocks debating on whether or not to go back and chicken out. I could hear my dad yelling encouraging comments, while my siblings were telling me how much I was missing out on. I could almost feel the smooth stone cold rock crumble beneath my rough bare feet. I took another small terrified step closer to my doom as I looked over the sharp edge, seeing the dark water get further and further down from the edge. I quickly retreated back to my previous spot and crawled on all foursto keep from falling off the side. I leaned over the edge again to get a look at the surrounding area, and I saw some smaller boulders towards the base of the cliff. As if I was not already terrified, seeing these rocks made me fear that I would not jump far enough and go crashing into the rocks. My family, getting sick of the fact that I still had not jumped,

At the beginning of my Christmas break, I was sitting by a smoky, hot fire with some hot coco with marshmallows in it with a warm blanket on a cold day. On the second day of break, I was riding my four wheeler drifting on the icy roads trying to go get more wood for my family's fire at my grandma and grandpa's house .But when I got there and there was a big puff of smoke in the back and it smelled like a fire so I ran back there, but it was just my grandma and grandpa making a fire so they could roast marshmallows so I joined and roasted marshmallows with them then I got my wood and rode back home.…

As we continued our drive, the day felt like any other of our typical adventures. We went to go camping at Skinny Dip Falls about 30 miles into the Parkway. Macklemore was playing from the stereo, and my head was pressed against the window, taking in everything the scenery had to offer. I was infatuated with how the layers of mountains seem to fade away perfectly the further they were. There was a fog that clung low to the valleys giving off a “smoky” appearance, which is the reasoning behind its nickname “The Great Smoky Mountains”.…

“How much longer?” I groaned out to my dad while wiping the sweat off my brow caused by the blistering heat of the mid-day sun. We were hiking up the Arizona Trail in the Grand Canyon for almost two hours. My brother and cousin were running up ahead, trying to race each other to the top of the 13-mile trail. My dad kept yelling at the two of them to slow down and wait for us. I knew the three of them wanted to go faster but kept having to wait for me.…
