The president proposes a budget each year and leaders of the other parties in congress may also propose a budget. These numbers are large and sometimes difficult to grasp, but the preamble gives us ways to think about them and to judge how our budget is spent. In each of the following Three Budget Clusters, the United States government should make adjustments in the way it is distrusting money by changes involving The Big Five, changes involving The Middle Five, and changes involving The Little Guys.…

Fire Departments across the nation occupy a precarious financial position; their budgets rise and fall as the local tax base expands or contracts. At the same time, local citizens demand, at a minimum, that the fire department provide the same level of service from year to year. Not only does this stress day-to-day operations, it also makes it nearly impossible to meet regulatory requirements or forecast long term capital purchases. Executive Fire Officers are forced to find creative solutions to navigate this financial uncertainty. The United States Fire Administration has catalogued several alternate funding sources.…

Based off of the Preamble of the Constitution, the United States has some morals, ethics, and values that were stated but aren’t necessarily being followed. The Constitution is partially responsible for the way the United States is today and how far we’ve come as a nation because it is a list of goals that the government should follow. One way to investigate whether or not the government is following those goals is to look at the Federal Budget and how the government chooses to spend money. It has become apparent that in each of the three budget clusters, the U.S. government should make some vital adjustments in the way it is distributing money in the Big Five, the Middle Five, and the Little Guys with paying off debts, helping with education…

Wildfires are not only a hazard to our land, but also to our wallets. Ingalsbee (2010) talks about the Forest Fires Emergency Act of 1908 in Getting Burned: a Taxpayer’s Guide to Wildfire Suppression Costs. The Forest Fires Emergency Act is a blank check from Congress that gives the U.S. Forest Service the authority to engage in deficit spending for wildfires. Idaho spends thousands of dollars for each fire in labor, equipment and other costs. Wildfires are especially costly here in the Midwest, where the number and intensity of wildfires are increasing.…
