It was then I decided that I wanted to be an artist in some way, shape or form. I originally wanted to be a Disney animator because my affinity for drawing. College is a life changing investment that prepares for life and career. The vast spectrum of knowledge, skills obtained, and experiences from a college degree more than compensates for the monetary cost of tuition. Creating art is my passion; I have always wanted to become a great artist ever since I was a child drawing on my walls and copying pictures from books. I have devoted my life to improving my talents by illustrating my own stories, practicing drawing daily, and challenging myself to earning my own money doing what I love by drawing commissions. Learning how to communicate through illustration is a valuable skill that will live with me for the rest of my life and progressing my artist career.…

An abundance of people appreciate the arts, whether it be the performing, visual or theatrical areas, on the other hand, I love them. My passion being the visual arts. Instead of writing and spelling at five years old, I was drawing, painting mixing colors and forming shapes not realizing the capableness of my techniques for such a young aged child. Because drawing was the only thing I fancied, every one figured it was “a phase I was going through and would grow out of it”. It never happened.…

In life, when you’re trying to reach a goal that would one day become a reality, it would mean that giving up is never the option to choose when it comes down to reaching the goal that you will one day accomplish. Reaching for that goal will have its obstacles but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. When I was in 8th grade, I use to hang out with a group of people that had a passion for drawing. I wasn’t really a drawer at first; I didn’t really enjoy drawing but, I did like watching people draw. One day I remember watching one of my friends draw one of my favorite characters from a show known as Naruto; when I saw that drawing, i started getting interested in trying to draw my own things, so I started practicing.…

From childhood it was dream to go to The Art Institute; I would watch the commercials about the pamphlet with the three pictures to draw and just knew that was where I wanted to go. I would not say that the community that I grew up in necessarily fostered creativity. The small farming community in Illinois about thirty minutes from both the Iowa and Wisconsin boarders tended to focus solely on agriculture and sports. I try not to give where I grew up any credit for my academic success and passion for interior design, but honestly, growing up where I did gave me the strongest push to make something important of myself and my life. Growing up an only child, I was often forced to find creative ways to entertain myself. It was quite hard to play board games, sports, and even with toys without another child around.…

I have always had a passion for history and storytelling since I was a child and decided in seventh grade world history class that I wanted to be an archaeologist, discovering ancient cultures and uncovering their secrets. I maintained this plan, arriving at Boston University as an archaeology major but after several semesters of study realized that it wasn’t the exact path for me. I began to grow my appreciation of museums, admiring how they could ignite wonder, curiosity, and learning in myself and others. I realized this was where I felt most at home. Therefore, I decided to change my major to art history, while retaining an archaeology minor, and explore history through the lens of artist’s interpretations and ideas.…

According to the text Living with Art by Mark Getlein, there are six primary roles that artists fulfill in society: artists “create places for some human purpose” (i.e. monolithic art as Stonehenge, Gobeki Tepe, churches, etc..), artist “create extra-ordinary versions of ordinary objects” (for instance the World’s largest ball of yarn, or Tintoretto’s Last Supper), artists have been used to “record and commemorate” historical events (such as a wedding photographer or Pablo Picasso’s Guernica depicting the carnage of the civil war of Spain), artists give “tangible form to the unknown” (for instance the abstract and cubist movements of the 20th century, or the design of man-made objects), artists “give tangible form to feelings and ideas” ( works…

It only goes to show that the question that more than likely receives the most generic answers from an audience, can also be the hardest to answer truthfully. What is art? If you were to ask a group of one thousand people that very question, the chances are that the majority of them would answer it by saying something along the lines of “It is and expression of yourself and how you feel” and “Painting, drawing, sculpting, and photographs.” I refuse to be restricted to these two categories, only to answer the same way all others have. That may make me seem stuck up in some way, however, I feel that I have a fairly unique understanding that not many think about.…
