Finding Your True North

This week’s reading are focused in on authenticity and how being authentic can lead to a successful leader and a successful workplace. In Christensen’s interview of Bill George we dive into the idea of “true north” and how finding your true north will create a foundation for trust and success. Goffee and Jones go on to explain why authenticity can help create a workplace where employees are happy and productivity is high. While reading about finding your true north will help you become the best leader of yourself really resonated in me. Finding your true north basically directes you to your purpose in life, and I feel like I am still searching for my true north. Like we’ve read in Kotter before a leader is supposed to set direction and motivate people and after reading Christensen’s article you realize how you set the direction and how you motivate people. They want us to realize that creating an authentic organization and using employees to their highest potential is not an easy task. If a leader can follow their true north like George mentions above then they can truly invest and create a healthy and ideal working environment. One of the ways to make to make an ideal organization is to “magnify people’s strength.” While reading that it resoinated with the Goleman’s 6 coaching style of leadership. Coaching called for an investment in the future and it creates a positive environment. I might be biased because I fall under the coaching style of leadership, so I understand how this coaching style can create a good working environment. I believe that employees can see your heart and effort you put into them, so in they will work as hard in return. If you can place trust and freedom into an employee more often or not they also don’t want to disappoint, so they will step up the
