Finding Nemo Essay

In the iconic movie, “Finding Nemo”, a shark named Bruce once said, “Fish are friends, not food.” This is verbal evidence that superlative character education was exemplified in this children’s film. Exemplifying true character education in a movie is very difficult, let alone in a children’s movie. These movies especially need to show kids how to act around others and how to grow up to be role models for others. In “Finding Nemo”, character education is exemplified in a plethora of areas, including determination, friendship, and courage. These were demonstrated in multiple parts throughout the movie. To begin, the first way character education was exhibited in “Finding Nemo” began when Marlin found out that his son was missing. Courage was shown a plethora of times throughout the movie. One example of when courage was demonstrated was when Nemo attempted to clog the filter of the fish tank. This was their only way to escape and Nemo was the only fish that could squeeze through the compact filter tube that seemed to shrink as he wiggled through. Although he failed at his first attempt, this did not discourage Nemo. Instead, it motivated him to build up the courage to try to clog the filter again. Eventually, he succeeded. Children can learn character from this scene because it proves that bravery can lead to success. Another example of courage in “Finding Nemo” was when Marlin and Dory finally reunited with Nemo. The three of them were trapped in a fishing net and would not have been able to escape without courage. This represents true character education because in order for Dory, Marlin, and Nemo to have escaped, they needed to have the courage to put themselves in danger.
