The classic Pixar film Finding Nemo, when looked through psychological lenses, brings a whole new light to the meaning of the movie to the surface. A good deal of your review focused on how Dory’s condition resembles anterograde amnesia. The point brought up in your review when you talk about how Dory tries to repeatedly say/act on something in an effort not to forget the new information is significant in defining this form of amnesia. This mnemonic-like tool can be used to describe her attempts to remember important things (like the address of the dentist office). This skill proves critical in advancing the plot of the movie.…

Version 10 I was at a Finding Nemo attraction in Disney World when my mother made a comment about disliking Ellen Degeneres, that was the first time I remember hearing someone speak negatively of homosexuality. It didn't bother me as a 7 year old; I didn't know any better because I didn't fully understand why she disliked her. I knew that our religion wasn't very accepting of homosexuality, but I only had a vague understanding of it at the time. It was one of those things that wasn't really talked about, and certainly not in front of me, a child.…

Take a stroll past the cacophony of the casino, keep going past the cluster of gift stands, phone charging stations, food smells from many cafes, scent of stale cigarettes and cheap liquor lingering in the many bars, to arrive at the aquarium housed inside Mandalay Bay Casino. Solitude: the whisper of water bubbles floating through liquid heaven, soft illumination of ever changing colors, the aroma of salt water, a hint of wood from the floor and bench style seats. Entering the aquarium, visitors are greeted by many specimens of salt water inhabitants; fish, crustaceans, plants, and the obligatory sharks, the infamous predator of the ocean. The shark is not unlike predators found on the casino floor, which are concealed as gaming tables and…

Back in the times when public beheadings were merciful and the least barbaric execution method, the people loved gory stories filled with extreme emotion, but now in the twenty-first-century things have changed greatly. Shakespeare was famous for his comedies and tragedies, however, as morals and practices have developed the stories have had to develop too. To allow the modern audience to admire his creative ideas, adaptations were mad. The lion king is one adaptation targeted to children. Disney used many techniques to make it appropriate and enjoyable for children like having fun animal characters, simple age-appropriate versions of the topics of Hamlet, and incorporating songs.…

On November 11th, I saw “The Little Mermaid” at St. Ignatius College Prep. The musical was composed by Alan Menken and directed by Kevin Bellie. There was an array of songs however, I chose to review the pieces “Part of Your World,” “She’s in Love,” “Her Voice,” “Under the Sea,” and “Kiss the Girl.” Although there was no live pit orchestra however, I was thoroughly impressed by the musicianship and creative liberties the cast took on the songs. The first solo, “Part of Your World,” was performed by Maddie Mazzella who played Ariel.…
