She is stuck in a wheelchair and loves riding horses. She doesn’t tell anyone but her best friend about her riding horses because she doesn’t want the attention. She wants to be treated the same as everyone else even though she’s in the wheelchair. In the words that Kylie said, “ I don’t want to bring attention to myself. I just want to be treated like everyone else,” it shows that she wants to be like everyone else in her class. She doesn’t want people to think that she’s special because she’s in a wheelchair. It is very unlikely to find a girl in a wheelchair riding a horse. She deals with the problem of fitting in by showing that she can do things that girls without a wheelchair can do like riding a horse. In the play, Kylie learns that it’s ok to be yourself and even though she’s in a wheelchair, she can still be normal. She also learns that there are others like her who have disabilities and can’t do what she can do. Other people wouldn’t even try to learn how to ride a horse or anything that a person without a disability can do because they think that they can’t do it. Having a disability makes things more difficult but to overcome those difficulties, you have to try harder. Kylie can inspire people that have disabilities and show them that they can still do things that people without disabilities have. In the interview “Finding Her Way” and the play “Kylie’s Project,” both the main characters Angela and Kylie both had to find ways to handle their problems at school. Angela, had to face the problem of cultural differences and Kylie had to face the problem of misunderstanding disabilities.Angela solves this problem by ignoring the ones that are making fun of her and talking back to them. Kylie deals with her problem of misunderstanding disabilities by showing her class pictures of her riding a horse. Many people think that people with disabilities can’t ride horses but she proved them wrong. They both were treated differently because of their background and disability. People think that just because they are different, they aren’t as good as they are. In the play, it proves that just because o have a disability, you can’t ride a horse but Kylie was able to know her class through photo’s that she can.
