Financial Analysis: DECA

We are faced with problems everyday, and it is how we resolve them that determines our character. During a financial role play for DECA, I was put on the spot and had to generate ideas for a company which was going bankrupt. I had to think out of the box in order to devise a plan that would help this company recover from its financial depression. Preparing constantly my presentation skill and learning the material helped me be one of the top county finalist for my even. More importantly, doing financial analysis has strengthened my interest for numbers because I have learned from this that numbers never lie.

This fascination with numbers lead me to enroll in computer science classes at my school. I was enthralled with how a computer works and converting into different number systems. Learning Python was difficult, as it was similar to learning a third language. However, perseverance was key for me to succeed. A Japanese proverb once stated, “Fall down seven times, get up eight.” This shows how you always have to keep trying, no matter if you fail, and try to find a way to succeed. When I first received my concerto to learn, it looked really intimidating with a lot of black dots on a page. But I figured to break the concerto into different sections and practice by isolating and looping the couple of measure I was struggling with. This experience shows that you need not only to work hard, but to work smart also. My dedication to this instrument has landed the concertmaster position for my orchestra. As the concertmaster, I am responsible for guiding the rest of the members in the orchestra. From this position, I was able to work with the other principles in the orchestra in order to pull of a successful concert. This experience allowed me to meet new people and get to know them
