Final Synthesis Essay

To start off, I do not believe race, religion, gender, sexual orientation or ethnicity makes me incapable of working hard and achieving success in school. There might be obstacles in the way to get where I want to be, but that would never stop me. However, to some people it might stop them from achieving success in school if they believe what others say about them. For example, if someone does not know English, but learns English as a second language it makes him or her closer to achieving success and shows that he or she is putting effort in their education. I feel as though the only time someone makes their gender, race, religion, sexual orientation or ethnicity stop from working hard or achieving success is if he or she gives up. All it takes to achieve success in school is effort. Once he or she puts effort in their work he or she will definitely get closer to the mountain of success. All because someone checks off their religion, race, and ethnic group on the back of the SAT form does not mean he or she is “intellectual inferior.” Basically, the SATs cheat others from their academic skills because students would not know what they are good on with points being penalized or gained. For example, students work hard to do outstanding on the SATs, but what is the point if their score is not actually accurate. What if a student only gets a 1370 on the SAT how would the student know exactly what to practice on if points are being added if he or she is African American, Hispanic, an athlete or a legacy student? It costs a lot of money to just take the SATs so clearly theses different standards need to not exist anymore. In conclusion, learning what standards the SATs have shows that students should not have to take this state exam ever
