Ecofeminism
Chapter 7 talks about the very essence of ecofeminism. The main focus of the chapter mentions the domination over the natural world by the humanity. It says that women are connected more to the nature than men and some cultures clearly show this connection. Ecofeminists claim that equally to the oppression we face in society, there are conceptual, symbolic, and a spiritual links between environmental and ecological problems and feminism. It should be noted that the very essence of the chapter is to show that not only has the world been patriarchal for many centuries but it is also believed that patriarchy’s oppressive essence damaged and negatively influenced the development of both …show more content…
Two conflicting approaches were presented. The first approach talks about how some people state that humanity is the core and main element of this world and that everything should be done in favor of humanity. The second approach indicated that the planet we live on should be treated with respect and care, as without it there will be no future. Personally, I thought it was interesting to learn that when we damage our environment, it directly influences us, as the earth is a life system, which connects everything and everyone. It has been noted that in modern patriarchal and capitalist society, everything has its own meaning. Nature has a meaning of “infinite” resources that men exploit and try to exhaust. Women are placed lower than men, similarly to nature. Men represent culture, while women represent nature, but these two concepts do not coincide and work together as they should be. For instance, in a non-patriarchal and social world, women would be able to bring nature into culture, while men would bring culture into nature. The connection between these two different, yet interdependent and interconnected worlds would make the planet and society a better place to live. Personally, I strongly agree with the transformative ecofeminism, as its ideas are aimed towards an essential shift from the adverse perception of connection between women and nature without the extremist views on the development of the
