My research assignment became problematic due to my weakness of correctly citing my work. I think the time that I spent in the WRGT 101 class was more than helpful in terms of the knowledge that I absorbed in regards to searching and gathering material for a topic. The topic that I selected for my paper was how to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Initially, at the start of the paper, I believe myself to be highly knowledgeable on the subject but I walked away from all my research with a plethora of new information on my topic. I thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent creating my paper.

It was more challenging than I anticipated. The challenge for me was mostly due to the fact that I had to conduct majority of my research through the UMUC Information and Library Services interface. I can honestly say that I wasn’t too happy about that in the beginning stages of me writing my research paper but that was mostly because I was forced out of my comfort zone. Normally, when conducting a paper that requires me to do research, I would simply use google as my primary source of information. Once I became more familiar with the site,I found a strong appreciation for the UMUC Information and Library Services because it broke me out of that comfort zone. By using the UMUC Library, it allowed me to focus on the paper and not have to worry or check on the credibility of the source at hand. After getting accustom to the site, I played around with different key words in efforts to find the best fitting source material. I received the best results by searching " keys to healthy living", A bulk of the material I included in my paper came from searching those key …show more content…
The process that I struggled with the most was correctly citing my work. I am greatly appreciative of the Mulligan my Professor granted me. I reviewed some citing material from the previous weeks to help me with my citing woes. I think a success for me is how I will now focus on involving more scholar journals in the sources I use on future

It scared me a little bit to hear the student say that once you get into college, the internet won’t cut it anymore. I’m glad I’m learning that now, rather than when I first enter college though. The Locating Sources Video talks about where we can turn for help. In the beginning of the video, the student explains that all though the search tricks can seem overwhelming, in the long run they’ll be a lot of help. The first method for finding a good source starts…

Upon reading chapter 5 from Holdstein’s “Who says? The Writer’s Research” I found myself faced with a number of ideas I had been unfamiliar with. After thoroughly examining this chapter, I realized that previously, I hadn’t properly evaluated resources, which is a mistake I made as someone who gathers research and analyzes various ideas in my writing. Throughout this chapter, I took notice that I, as a writer, have three main responsibilities: conducting a thorough search for sources using the proper key words, carefully and meticulously, yet efficiently analyzing sources, and determining the rationality of a source. While these ideas may present themselves as challenging, as I had been previously unfamiliar with them, if I acquire the proper…

After I found my topic, finding sources about recycling for the research paper was very tedious and time consuming. Additionally, I changed my thesis statement a couple times to fit my research better. There were occasionally were moments where I felt like my brain synopses had tangled in a knot, but with the help of Mrs. Keller, her PowerPoints and the online sources I eventually was able to put everything in order and was able to finish the…

Having the Craft of Research article that give things to look for in an article to prove it is a valid source to use was very helpful. The article said to look for things like the author, editor, and sponsor. These seem like basic things to include in an article, but once I started looking at online sources for my research essay, I soon realized that not a lot of websites include these things, so there is no way to tell if a source is credible or not. The Craft of Research article also said to look for things like date of publication. If a source is old, it could be outdated and the information could be wrong.…

Before reading your novel, A Lesson Before Dying, I was always told by my peers, I was never good enough to attend a private school. I begin to believe what was being told since grown up in the public school system of Baltimore was difficult, witnessing fights on a daily basis and students constantly disrespecting the teacher. Many middle schoolers never have the opportunity to even think about private school with little support or income. In eighth grade, your novel was able to help me grasp the concept of perseverance. From my peers, I was able to see their mistakes and correct them in order overcome the difficulties that I faced.…

I chose to write my informative article on Diabetes. I chose this disease to study and write about because it is one of the fastest growing diseases in all ages of people. I believe because of how severe and common this disease is, I should learn more about it and take any opportunity I can to talk about it with someone else. Diabetes prevents the body from using or housing sugars that you intake through food by preventing insulin from being produced. Insulin is a hormone in the pancreas that helps the body use sugar for energy to run it.…

Through the past eight weeks my view of theology has changed significantly. From my prior reflection essay I discussed theology as a word I could associate with my father and his theology degree he had been seeking to finish. After taking this course I realize that the word theology can be associated to much more and I can also have my own views and ideas as to what things might mean. Through the course I enjoyed the in depth study from start to finish and found it easy to start due to us truly starting at the beginning. In church settings it is often discouraging to hear a sermon and have the pastor assume the congregation knows what he is referring to when discussing various books of the Bible.…

When I began studying at the University of Montevallo, I had a background of high school creative writing and English classes, and one summer of a college English class. To be honest, I was terrified of jumping into my fall English 102 class. I felt I was unprepared for a serious college level composition class, and that I would have a strenuous time adjusting to a four-year university. However, as I walk away from my English 102 class I carry the understanding of writing a college level essay, undertaking research and completing a research and argument paper properly, and knowledge to prepare me for my other classes and profession.…

Self reflection is the mental process that acquires knowledge and understanding through thoughts and experience which helps encourage self awareness. This essay focuses on assessing my objectives and how I have developed my skills from the beginning of this semester until now. At the start of semester A, I wasn’t confident in preparing for the skills sessions and workshops. I wasn 't always able to find the correct answers to the workshop questions set which made it relatively difficult for me to participate in lectures despite finding myself at the library every other day. I began by listening to knowledge based lectures online and making notes alongside the recommended reading given by my lecturers or the module guide.…

My Action Plan During this semester, I have discovered useful information about myself, and as I move forward, I will be using the various learning tools and skills. I need forty-nine credits overall, I have eighteen scheduled over the next two semesters, which includes the ones I am taking right now.…
