Choosing biology for me was just like pulling out my favorite hoodie to add to my daily outfit. Biology has always interested me, and I have always tried to choose a science that has some relation to biology and it’s contents, but that is difficult being that certain sciences are required in order to graduate. As I looked over the list to choose my final science credit, I was drawn to Anatomy and Physiology immediately, knowing that this class was going to be the one. Although Anatomy and Physiology are not exactly like biology, I get to use things I learned my freshman year in AP Biology to help further my understanding of the human body, and gives me deeper insight as to how the body should function. My goal after receiving my degree

My choice to have biochemistry as my major was the most logical, because for all of my life I have been interested in what life is composed of. I looked at the incredible things that people and animals do and I found that all the intricate working of biology and chemistry that made all of their actions possible, only added to the awesomeness of it all. Another important factor in my life that started my interest into the science of biology was my mother, who has a genetic anemia called Fanconi Anemia. She has lived with this genetic disease for all of her life and it has had a toll on her quality of life. From my earliest memories she has struggled with blood transfusions and bone marrow biopsies.…

Alternate Major A general curiosity of numerical calculations in the existence of matter is the major root-cause for majoring in Chemistry. In essence, a lack thereof of such curiosity fuels the desire to transition from Chemistry to another science-related fields. One popular change is from Chemistry to Biology. I personally think that changing my major to Biology will be the easy route to take because the comparison between the two illustrates a rather compelling idea of 39 credits to obtain a Bachelors in Science in Biology, as compared to the 48 credits required for a Bachelors in Chemistry.…

Through my four years in high school, one of the toughest classes I faced was AP biology. The rigorous course involved an intense 48 chapter lesson plan with a 2 hour AP exam at the end of the school year. Near the end of my junior, I was skeptical of taking this class, as I heard from my fellow classmates that the class was difficult to earn a decent grade. With this in mind, I began preparing for the class over the summer by reading the textbook, and practicing using the workbook. As I read the book, I became deeply interested in this subject.…

When deciding which HTC program, I always knew I want to go into some type of science. Although there is only one science program, I chose Biological Sciences for two major reasons: the love of science and the preparation for veterinarian school. Science has always been my favorite subject in school because what I learned in the classroom I could use outside the classroom. It was not something that I would never use once the test was over, it was ideas and skills that would help me see more detail in the world around me. For example, from my biology and chemistry classes, I've taken lab inquiry and procedure skills to solve several problems I've come across both at home and work.…

Learning Basic Medical Science has allowed me to learn a variety of new things that I had never even heard of before or done before like immunohistochemistry, solving case studies, and T1/T2 translational research. Immunohistochemistry was really interesting and complex. At first, I overlooked it because I thought it was my over my head and not applicable to me at the moment. Then, over time I noticed that we talked about it several class periods, so clearly it had some significance to us currently.…
