I had an emergency surgery in November and was in an excessive amount of pain that lasted until December, which caused me to miss a lot of days this semester. My professors worked with me to help makeup a few things that I missed, but I found myself unable to focus and do my best with all that I was going through at the time. I managed to do well in my other three classes since I had done very well at the beginning of

In the beginning of high school, I couldn’t understand the importance of handling my responsibilities, especially when it came to my school work. I just couldn’t find the motivation to hand in stuff like homework on time. I actually started to do less and less each school year. I never try to fix my problem because there were never any consequences to it. I would pass all my classes with decent grades with no problems despite ignoring a lot of the work, but then I was called by my English teacher to stay after class.…

Short Term 12 was a very interesting movie. It had hints of being realistic, but with aspects where you knew it was a movie. Before reading your novel, A Lesson Before Dying, I was always told by my peers, I was never good enough to attend a private school. I begin to believe what was being told since grown up in the public school system of Baltimore was difficult, witnessing fights on a daily basis and students constantly disrespecting the teacher. Many middle schoolers never have the opportunity to even think about private school with little support or income. In eighth grade, your novel was able to help me grasp the concept of perseverance.
