Last year, for the first time my high school created a ninety-minute class at the end of the day. This change completely transformed my academic experience for the better. This is because the longer block allowed me to learn in a more experiential and hands on way. It was suddenly possible to visit a museum, have more in depth conversations, and learn from my peers. I believe that I thrive in this type of environment, where the focus is on depth rather than memorization, because I love not just to accept things as true, but rather to challenge and analyze why things are important and what they mean. I believe that the Colorado’s College’s block plan more than any other academic plan that I have heard of, would allow me to do just this, as

I do not take pleasure in writing negative evaluations but I cannot say that my experience with Dr. Arieahn Matamonasa-Bennett was positive in the least. I have enjoyed and learned very much from taking many professors at Fielding, and that’s why I feel that it is necessary to point out the professors who do not hold themselves to the same standards of excellence. I will try to articulate my experience in Dr. Arieahn Matamonasa-Bennett’s multicultural (712) course as briefly as possible. Also, if any verification of my accounts of what transpired is needed, I would be happy to provide the email correspondences or any additional information upon request. (1) To start, Dr. Matamonasa-Bennett’s syllabus for the 712 course was dated for the previous semester.…

The purpose of this body of work was to address medication errors and safe medication administration practices in relation to practicing nurses and nursing students via several different approaches. These different approaches will be presented as three separate papers but interrelated themes. The specific purpose for each paper and the corresponding research questions were addressed individually in each chapter. The approach used in the first paper was a systematic literature search of medication administration errors and the pediatric population; five themes emerged including the incidence rate of medication administration errors, specific medications involved in medication administration errors and classification of the errors, why medication…

The last two years have been busy, as I have moved twice, resulting in my attendance to three separate high schools. This gives me first hand experience in many different types of schedules. In junior high, I had an A/B block type schedule, we had the same core classes everyday but our electives would alternate each day. Freshman year I had a 4x4 block schedule with 4 90 minute classes a day and classes were only a semester long (8 credits). Sophomore year I attended a school with trimesters, 5 70min classes per day, lasting 2 out of the 3 trimesters.…

For my final portfolio, I chose to revise a shorter essay, “Potential Ramifications of a Trump Presidency,” and a longer essay, “Assignment 7: Finding Place Research Project.” I chose these two essays specifically because of their differences. The former is shorter, more informal, and includes more of my thoughts and opinions. The latter is a longer research paper, and thus is more formal and less biased as I attempted to give a brief history of gentrification and its impacts on East Liberty.…

Short Term 12 was a very interesting movie. It had hints of being realistic, but with aspects where you knew it was a movie. It’s about a group of workers who work in a foster care residential facility setting. The main character, Grace, deals with her own personal struggles while she supervises the children at the facility. I have a short bit of experience at a facility like Short Term 12 in some aspects; I can see where parts of the movie are realistic and where are some are an exaggeration because it is a movie.…

Before reading your novel, A Lesson Before Dying, I was always told by my peers, I was never good enough to attend a private school. I begin to believe what was being told since grown up in the public school system of Baltimore was difficult, witnessing fights on a daily basis and students constantly disrespecting the teacher. Many middle schoolers never have the opportunity to even think about private school with little support or income. In eighth grade, your novel was able to help me grasp the concept of perseverance. From my peers, I was able to see their mistakes and correct them in order overcome the difficulties that I faced.…

    The Awakening Reflection

Kate Chopin’s The Awakening is a book about one woman, Edna Pontellier, and about every woman in her society. Though it is not in itself a book of feminist teachings, its purpose was to enlighten---and hopefully awaken---its female readers to their selves and their humanity by showing the awakening of one such woman. Presumably, her intended audience was young to middle-aged women, both married and single, who were interested in love stories, art, scandals, or social analysis. As a young, single woman interested in social analysis books, I found The Awakening to be a very quietly intense book that I saw much of myself in.…
