I have and always had this urge to see change. I realised that as humans this is innate in us, and we should act upon this natural instinct in everything we do. From as far back as my memory goes I would question why people behave the way they do. Society seems on the surface to be regressing, but people are progressing and are becoming more and more conscious and it’s these people who will bring forth change against those striving so hard to stifle it. It would hurt me as a child watching children on the television dying from starvation and seeing people homeless from war. My mother would tell me stories of how she fled Somalia during the civil war in the 80s. This made me wonder why there are wars and why there is conflict. It all came down …show more content…
Learning the key principles of this topic and deepening my existing knowledge creates impetus for me. The fact that this course is always moving forward rather than dwelling upon what has been learnt already really attracts me. Debating is essential to progression; debating about what really matters is vital and that is what this course offers opportunity to progress. From just turning on the news and seeing the goings –on in the world seem to be one of few things that actually spark a fire inside me that most things do not. Being quite a calm and reserved person I’ve found when it comes to the distribution of wealth and the state of LEDCs as an example I come out of that and become far more …show more content…
anti-abortion, to what triggered the World War and how this affects us today. This subject at GCSE level really initiated my love for debate and has helped me think more critically and analytically. As I came into my A-levels I chose Geography, Theatre Studies and Business. I wanted to choose A-levels that would help mould me to think in a way that would help me in any situation. I chose Geography as this is the career course I want to take; I chose Theatre Studies for similar reasons however what Theatre Studies has that other subjects do not is that it aids overall communicative skills. Business is paramount to the economic flow of the world and the development of countries and was chosen for such

The purpose of this body of work was to address medication errors and safe medication administration practices in relation to practicing nurses and nursing students via several different approaches. These different approaches will be presented as three separate papers but interrelated themes. The specific purpose for each paper and the corresponding research questions were addressed individually in each chapter. The approach used in the first paper was a systematic literature search of medication administration errors and the pediatric population; five themes emerged including the incidence rate of medication administration errors, specific medications involved in medication administration errors and classification of the errors, why medication…

This course was extremely intriguing and had me hooked from the first discussion forum. It required me to venture out of my comfort zone and ask questions that others viewed as odd, but I knew was going to assist me in my studies. I can recall one specific instance where I was on twenty-four-hour duty and I began asking a police officer doing his security checks questions. It had to be two in the morning and you can tell by the exhausted look on his face when he walked through the bitter cold into our dimly lit building entrance. He spoke with very little energy as he said good morning, but once I began asking him the list of questions that I just so happened to have typed on my laptop screen he immediately perked up and began to speak with life.…

For my final portfolio, I chose to revise a shorter essay, “Potential Ramifications of a Trump Presidency,” and a longer essay, “Assignment 7: Finding Place Research Project.” I chose these two essays specifically because of their differences. The former is shorter, more informal, and includes more of my thoughts and opinions. The latter is a longer research paper, and thus is more formal and less biased as I attempted to give a brief history of gentrification and its impacts on East Liberty.…

Change, we always expect others to do it for us. Change does not occur overnight and it definitely does not occur if people are not a part of it. We are so caught up in our daily life’s we do not even bother to make this a better world for future generations. We live with the mindset of what can I do about it? That exact same thought came to my mind when I discovered all the –ism that created inequalities and injustices that occur in our world.…

Before reading your novel, A Lesson Before Dying, I was always told by my peers, I was never good enough to attend a private school. I begin to believe what was being told since grown up in the public school system of Baltimore was difficult, witnessing fights on a daily basis and students constantly disrespecting the teacher. Many middle schoolers never have the opportunity to even think about private school with little support or income. In eighth grade, your novel was able to help me grasp the concept of perseverance. From my peers, I was able to see their mistakes and correct them in order overcome the difficulties that I faced.…

Second week only consist of four working days, because Monday was Memorial Day. For the rest of the week the Congress is not in session. Drafting constituent’s letter, answering constituent calls, tour request of the Capitol, and flag request from veterans are responsibilities that I held accountable for this week. Second week into work is less hectic and my reaction to my work tasks was a brief moment of resting. I need some clarification and assistance in some areas, but for the most part, I got a hang of it.…

In my time at NYU and abroad in South Africa, I have been given the opportunity to work both alongside and in the communities of amazing people. The majority of these peeps being women simply because of the gender and women’s politics that I have focused my major and work on. I have taken the issues I care about and attempted to intersect them with different multimedia platforms. For example, I made a short film that touches on both the prevailing topic of sexual assault on college campuses and street harassment in New York City.…

When most people think of a history class they imagine sitting in a dark lecture hall taking notes off a PowerPoint presentation, memorizing a few dates and people, repeating it on the test. Truly studying history, I learned, is more than memorization of a previously told story and accepting it as true. In this class I have learned history is about actively engaging the material, picking apart the details and nuances, creating and using timelines, finding deeper meaning in the material, asking questions, then looking again and digging deeper. It is not a passive study and not about memorization as I believed at the beginning of the semester. History is about asking questions and looking for answers, not just accepting what is already there, but…

There are many things that nurture my desire to learn about, and to engage in conflict and social transformation endeavors. As someone who grew up in the midst of inequality, I have known from a young age that our world needs healing. I spent my early years living in a country that has engaged in a 52-year-old civil war- in a country in which citizens recently voted against a peace agreement that would have been a monumental step towards ending the Colombian armed conflict. In addition, I also spent my young adulthood in the United States-a country that is largely responsible for much of the inequalities and poverty that plagues Latin America. Because of my experiences in both countries, I have always felt in my heart that my duty as a citizen of the world is to grow in every possible manner, and to study peace and social justice diligently so that I can one day join efforts…
