Now that I have completed the first seven units, my view of statistics has changed a great deal. In unit one, I was certainly confused on what to expect with this course, and I was frightened by this subject called statistics. I actually had no idea why this course was required since I would never utilize this for anything. However, I now realize the importance of having an understanding of statistics. Thus, I have realized the significance of analyzing the data vividly and conclusively for myself rather than irrationally trusting another person’s analysis as it appears (Mirabella, 2011). Accordingly, this course has opened my eyes to the importance of statistics in the world that I live by showing me that statistics is beyond that of

Following the correct guidelines for significant figures is crucial in reporting accurate data that is reflective of the accuracy of the means used to collect it. It follows that the answer to any calculation can be no more nor any less precise than the least precise piece of data involved in the calculation. In this course, we will follow a set of rules meant to a) provide consistency to our significant figures and rounding and b) provide answers that agree, in accuracy and precision, with our measured data. Every statistic, no matter how well it was thought out or conducted is imperfect, but still offer a way to summarize complex information. Abelson argues that good judgement with statistics in social science has been lost because there is considerable focus on null hypothesis testing (Abelson, 2). Aside from utilizing statistics to describe the distribution of population health, I was also taught how to apply statistics to community health program evaluations. In HLTH391, we utilized quantitative and qualitative survey measures to determine if we reached our set objectives and goals of the health fair. The grant proposal assignment in HLTH490 also required the class to apply statistic and research methods to determine outcome and impact evaluation of the program they were seeking funding for. In order to evaluate the set objectives of our grant proposal, my group and I sought to administer pretest and posttest evaluations at baseline and at program end. At my internship site, I have also been utilizing statistical measures in order to determine the health outcomes of the prenatal moms.…

I am now half way through with Summer Session II and the transition between high school and college has been exciting, but also overwhelming. A few differences I have noticed between my high school classes and my college classes are the size difference, the diversity in students, and the faster pace. In my high school, the average number of students in each class was about 25 to 35 compared to my biggest class now at about 200 students. Additionally, the students in my class before were mainly Hispanic, but now everywhere I look I am able to see people of different cultures and that is something that is so important to me. The reason for this is that, while I did not grow up in a diverse area, I believe that growing up around different people…

At present, the traditional lecture style class is focused on looking at different types of pressure ulcers and their different wound stages on photograph. This theoretical training is usually accompanied by clinical practice in which the students can observe and treat wounds in a real clinical context (Dobbin 2001, Gulpinar &…
