FINAL REFLECTION
In 2015 I ran in an organized race .I had participated in the Madd Dash, also known as the Strides for Change run near Earl March Secondary School. I’ve recieved an approximate time of 28 minutes when finished running the 5km run. During the day of the run, it was very cold and in the middle of the run it started to hail. In 2016, I ran in the Kanata Race Day event at Richcraft Community center during May. The run was during good and well rounded weather conditions for the ideal run, and my time around 24 minutes. Then October 16th, 2016, once again I participated in the Strides for change run, same location, being that it was at Earl of March secondary School. I got an exact time of 25:49 min . The weather conditions were very odd. During the beginning of the run, it was very cloudy but quarter way through the run, it started to rain very heavily, which might of affected my time.

First off, with being involved in extracurriculars both outside and inside of school, it was very difficult to have time in order to work on stamina and work on cardio, which therefore concluded time management played a huge role in training for the 5km. In relationship to extracurriculars, I’m apart of the Ottawa’s Weightlifting team, Just Lift, and my coach requires me to gain weight roughly around 200lbs and it was difficult to meet those expectation while training for the 5km, because I constantly kept losing weight, then had to gain it then the day after lose it and endless cycle kept continuing, therefore played a huge role on how training went in regards to the 5km run. Secondly with my training, it always involved more explosive movements and strength based than endurance, because I would always do my training at Just Lift Ottawa, therefore played another difficult factor into my

For this project, the first thing that my group and I did was research what needed to be known, such as: running techniques, diet plans, recommended stretches, appropriate running attire, and how velocity and acceleration help the runner in seeing how they can improve. After we gathered all of our research, we documented it and filed it until it was needed. The next step was the running. Materials needed for this portion are a stopwatch, a meter stick, calculator, and appropriate running gear.…

They fill in whatever extra time they have with intense core workouts or cross training with weights or swimming. Before writing this paper I assumed that the runners always take Sundays off for rest. But it turns long-distance runners don’t feel the need to take rest on the seventh day and instead partake in light training or…

INTRODUCTION Even though World War II is seen, from an American perspective, as a heroic war in which the United States fought against fascism and for freedom and equality, the race relations in the United States did not reflect these noble goals. In this essay I aim to deconstruct the ways in which race relations in the United States perpetuated systemic racism and the unequal power systems that had been in place for many years. To discuss these points I specifically highlight the cases of Japanese Internment, Native American relations, and Jewish American relations with the United States government.…

I went from running a 30 minute three mile to running a 25:26 three mile and that year I got most improved. The start to my junior year of cross county wasn't all that good I hadn't ran all summer and I felt like I was back to when I first started and I was in a way it took me a while to get back into the swing of things. That year I didn't set an overall personal record on any trail which was a huge let down, but there were a few times I set a PR on the trail compared to my sophomore year times, I also got most improved that year also. The start of my senior year started off with a…

Selection is the social, passionate, and legitimate process in which kids who won't be raised by their introduction to the world guardians turn out to be full and perpetual lawful individuals from another family while keeping up hereditary and at times mental associations with their introduction to the world family (www.childwelfare.gov). Transracial appropriation, or receiving outside one's own particular race, has turned out to be predominant in the present society, particularly among superstars. For instance, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, are White celebrities, who have received various offspring of changed races including African and Asian. This pattern of transracial appropriation has started worldwide level headed discussions with respect…

Race is a topic that is commonly unspoken about unless it involves them being racialized although it is an enormous issue. People, especially westernized, white democratic people, do not like to believe that race is still a large issue. Yet, it is rather just oblivious notions to ensure the power spectrum is kept in balance. Critical race theory explores the interconnection between race and power (de Peuter, March 26, 2015).…

All Things Race The issue of race continues to spark debate on whether it is a biological reality or a product of social construction. Even though many researchers try to find evidence of both explanations, I feel that the notion of human race categories being a biological concept is inaccurate but useful. Races do not exhibit much DNA and genetic differences.…

I enjoyed hearing from Mellody Hobson. The message she sends is powerful and articulates what all white people need to hear, and practice. I agree with her assertion that there is a dominant discourse about talking about race and ethnicity and I believe that most white people are afraid to broach the subject because a) either they believe there is no racism or ethnic discrimination b) they feel a sense of shame and guilt about what they think and feel towards those who are ethnically diverse or c) they fear feeling uncomfortable and do not want to acknowledge their privilege. My experience talking about gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, Indigeneity, social class, age, ability, or religion in my personal life is quite open and conversations I feel comfortable having; when any of these identity factors arise in a conversation I tend to be the first to acknowledge the identity factor, show curiosity and ask questions. Furthermore, I attempt to…

Introduction Value- free science describes a situation where science can depend on the facts presented and not be influenced by the social and moral values. It primarily involves impartiality where ideologies are accepted not based on social values but knowledge and facts. Also, it offers an element of neutrality and equality. Therefore, it is not completely possible to achieve a value-free science of race since our modern idea of race has its origins not on scientific investigations but rather historical cultural values.…

In the years between nineteen ninety nine and two thousand and fourteen, many important things happened. The former Russian President Boris Yeltsin survived several impeachment hearings, terrorist attacks brought down the Twin Towers, the UN Atomic Energy Agency told Iran to stop enriching uranium, and Aung San Suu Kyi won a seat in Myanmar’s parliament after twenty years of house arrest. People tend to look at these events as little pieces that make up the great puzzle of history. However, while these tiny little pieces were being made and put into place, something else was happening. Undercover, and in disguise.…

I finished second to last in thirty minutes. In one short cross country season, my coach inspired me to keep at it, and work hard. I ended the season 35 pounds lighter, 14 minutes faster, and for the first time so proud of my accomplishments that the sting of the auditorium experience almost faded. Mr. Pinkerton said by mid-October he saw my face for the first time because I always looked down. I was motivated to succeed because the words of a bully stung so deeply in my sole.…

The health goal that I decided to accomplish was to run a mile in 8 minutes or less by December 1st. This particular health goal was chosen for the reason that I felt my cardiovascular endurance could use improvement in comparison to my sprinting speed. It was a weak point that I want to address because when sprinting, I could not maintain my speed for long periods of time or distances. In addition, I plan to join the track team in the spring and hope to prepare myself for it. I made two action plans to alternate between for each week from research on what was an effective workout to increase my cardiovascular endurance.…

Prior to the assignment I had no intention to start running, the desire was always there, but I had no actual plans to do it. This took me from the pre-contemplation stage to the contemplation stage where I realized that I needed to make a change to my physical activity to prevent negative health effects down the road. Once I put a plan in place to submit in my Assignment One submission I moved into the preparation phase and I finally had a step-by-step plan of how to achieve my goal. I then moved into the action stage, which is where I still am currently, I got my butt off of the couch and started running. I started out slow, but I have been able to steadily move towards running longer and with faster speeds.…
