Final Portfolio Reflection

Professor Trujillo,
I am writing in regards to our Final Portfolio and the revisions that I have made to my original draft to prepare it for the portfolio. Between you and my peers I was given a considerable amount of suggestions and I took all of those into account when revising this paper.
To begin, I looked at the feedback you gave me which was small because, as you said, it “needs very little work on [the] portfolio”. There were a couple paragraphs that you marked as needing more analysis and for those paragraphs I reread them, reanalyzed them, and incorporated more information and more analysis to back up the argument or concept that was being discussed. I also fixed one area that was lacking in a strong transition and fixed a few errors

When this assignment was assigned, I knew I wanted to choose the two assignments I knew that were going to help me the most later in life. After a semester of learning about email etiquette, the job application process, designing PowerPoints, and research methods, I knew I had a lot to choose from. I wanted to make sure I chose, in my eyes, the two best documents I turned in. The two documents I have selected to revise for this portfolio are the email package from unit one and my job application from the document redesign portion in unit three. I chose the email package because I feel as if I have shown great professionalism within the emails I created.…

In my Student Led Conference Portfolio, I have entered six pieces that demonstrate my best work. The six elements consist of the Banned Book Quotation Chart, Taking Responsibility DEJ’s, The Hobbit Figure of Speech Chart, The Hobbit LRA’s, The House on Mango Street LRA’s, and finally the Fahrenheit 451 LRA’s. Out of all six elaborate pieces of work, my two strongest pieces are The House on Mango Street LRA’s and the Fahrenheit 451 LRA’s, which are placed in the reading section of my fourth quarter portfolio along with the other four reading responses. I feel that The House on Mango Street LRA’s demonstrate my best work because I put my best possible effort into each LRA that we were assigned to complete.…

I am not fully comfortable with transitioning, but I will get used to the words and incorporate them more in future papers. Lastly, one thing I did not change was my commas. Although I do use quite a few commas, I find them necessary. I do not agree with the criticism I receive about the number of commas I use because I believe that is just my style of writing. Everyone has their own type of writing, mine just involves more commas; where I believe are needed.…

Throughout my time in English 101, my writing has undergone drastic improvements. The first writing assignment I chose to revise was Project 1, the Advertisement Analysis. My first draft of Project 1 had no clear thesis and no specific claim, ideally, an easy problem to solve. However, this was a common issue in my writing in most of my projects this semester, so it only made sense to tackle this project and revise it first. To begin revising Project 1, I first established my thesis statement which was that: the “Best Buds” advertisement was effective because of the incorporated rhetorical strategies and the overall theme of loyalty.…

As I strided strong through my analysis paper, I saw how much I have improved throughout this year in writing. Although, I have many weaknesses and strengths in writing I managed to finish off this paper strong. In my analysis, my introduction went well and so did my thesis. I managed to develop both of them right off the bat once I started my paper. Another part that went was the interview with a field agronomist.…

One of the most important thing I have learned in this course that has positively affected my confidence in my writing skills is the concept of writing a “shitty first draft”. In my midterm self-assessment, I discussed how I thought I was among one of the unlucky ones that was not blessed with natural writing skills. However, through class discussions, I’ve learned that one of the most important competent of professional writing is the need for constant revision. Contrary to popular believe, writing does not come easy to anyone. In order to successfully produce professional writing, it is important that one plan, draft, revise, and edit his or her work.…

In assembling this portfolio, I knew I needed to choose my four strongest micro-essays to revise and expand upon. The four that I chose were the ones that included higher stakes, less summary, and more precise, unique arguments than those that I didn’t choose. In my essay on Emily Dickinson’s “The Brain—is wider than the Sky—” I argued that Dickinson sees the human mind as so powerful that it dwarfs God’s abilities and intellect by comparison.…

Final Reflection Assignment ACA 122 course has been an eye opener for me to say the least. I went in not knowing how much information and documents are required for college transfer. Upon completion I can say that this course has helped me acquire all the information needed in preparation to transfer to a four-year university. This course has taught me the knowledge that I need to strive through my educational journey such as the test-taking strategies, reading strategies and the note taking strategies which I find to be very useful. I have also discovered some strengths and weakness that I have regarding my studying skills and I have been working to improve the weaknesses.…

I immediately jumped onto the computer to view your comments and feedback. A few items that stood out in your feedback to me were my topic sentences weren’t as strong as they could be; I had some grammatical errors with my commas verses semi colons and with fragmented sentences. I spent my next few essays improving these items. When you were generous and offered us the option to improve one of our assignments I jumped at the chance to prove to myself that I could improve my essay and as a bonus I was able to finally achieve the A grade I wanted. Looking back at the changes in my writing style and the expansion of my knowledge on the different types of writing while taking your class has improved my skills and I find myself enjoying the writing process from beginning to end albeit only in your class, and only when I have an assignment due.…

This portfolio shows how I have grown as a reader and writer; enhancing my research skills and be able to convey them in my own words. As a reader, I was able to find the evidence I was looking for to support my argument. In my first writing, “Gladwell’s Missing Factor”, I was able to deeply analyze the theories Malcolm Gladwell wrote in his book, Outliers. As well as bring outside evidence of a current class I was enrolled. As a writer, I was able to construct strong arguments to capture my reader’s attention.…

Reflection When signing up to take the Final Project Course this fall I was extremely nervous and not excited to start. Walking into the first day of class and learning more about what the final project would entail, I did feel slightly better but still scared that it was going to be too overwhelming and hard to complete by myself. Luckily, the individual meetings and emails with my professor made everything much more clear and inviting. These final project meetings were very helpful in terms of receiving constructive criticism and then going back home to make changes to the paper.…

Over the course of this semester I learned a handful of things about myself as a writer, that will help me develop as a more proficient writer over the course of my four years here. As a writer one of my strengths is backing up my argument with solid and concrete evidence that truly makes the reader believe what they are reading. Another area of my writing that I excel in is being able to process great ideas that follow the guidelines and the prompt. With that being said I have also seen that while the ideas may come with ease, I do have a challenging time with getting the ideas from my head onto paper in a manner that isn’t so disorganized that it makes the reader second guess themselves. Another shaky part of my writing comes much before the actual forming of sentences.…
