The research article I chose shows how mode deactivation therapy (MDT), a type of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), reduces juvenile recidivism and is more effective than non-behaviorally based residential programs (Thoder & Cautilli, 2012). Mode deactivation therapy identifies personality characteristics that lead to criminal behavior. Once these characteristics have been identified, it allows the therapist to utilize imagery and relaxation techniques to address the negative personality traits.
