“Introduction to My View”
Are humans innately good or bad? I believe humans are innately good, as Jean-Jacques Rousseau believed. He believed that individuals were born with an intuitive understanding of what’s right or wrong. I believe people want to be good and do what is right. As a counselor in training, this is my view of human nature and our society. I truly believe that people want to move in a positive direction in their lives and careers. As children, we are all innocent, happy, and full of life. As time goes on things happen good and bad to each and every one of us. We learn to cope with these events and become better people for it. I found this correlation so interesting because of my own experiences of being disciplined as a half Filipino and half Italian daughter. Being ethnically diverse makes up a big part of my identity and I have had to cope with it within and outside of my culture. I have also had to deal with discrimination and prejudices throughout my life. For me, it has been mostly a positive experience because it has taught me a lot about societal norms and what occurs in our society. This will be beneficial for me when I am seeing clients and when I am a fully licensed

We as people tend to hold onto what makes us pleased. Even from childhood we had our favorite toys of memories which we try to hold onto. We also try to hide our dissatisfactions with our lives and try to be “normal” by doing what “must” be done. According to society we “must” go to college or we “must” act one way based on labels placed onto us such as race, gender, age, socioeconomic class, and so on. We become two-faced and have two separate personalities from what we truly desire and what we believe we must do to have a stable and “normal” life.…

The True Nature of Man Eric Burdon once stated “Inside each of us, there is the seed of both good and evil. It's a constant struggle as to which one will win. And one cannot exist without the other.” Burdon’s statement about human nature explains that there is a perpetual battle between good and evil within all of us and it is up to one’s self to choose what action takes over us. Many people have their own opinions of how human nature should be defined, some think we are all naturally flawed and are damned to hell and others believe we are naturally good and can be perfected.…
