Final Encore Art Project Examples

My final Encore art project is named “Environment”, I created my artwork in a mixed media form.My artwork presents two perspectives of environment; one is the nature environment and the other one is the cultural/social environment. I painted my canvas with acrylic to give it a deeper expression and I also added objects that we would see in our daily lives, I recycled and added them into my artwork so that my art could have a 3D expression.
The word, “environment”, is assigned to me during my core class for word project. The first thing that popped in my head when I heard environment was “nature”. When I think of nature, I picture a lake surrounded by trees and green grass and small wild animals around it with big mountains behind. I also glued dead grasses that I found while walking around into the canvas to give it more roughness feeling when the audience interacts with it. In my canvas there is a girl drawn, the girl appears to wear the most common outfits, college students tend to in Santa Cruz wear that is sweater, jeans and backpack. She is giving us her back because she is observing her surroundings. I also added some hair to her head so that I could give her a more 3D look. The girl is a representation of UCSC students, she is in the middle of the social/cultural and natural environment. In the process of making this art I was inspired by an artist named Ana Mendieta, who is best known for her "earth-body" art work. Most of her artwork are about her blending with nature by painting her body. Mendieta’s artwork is the one that leads me to add the dead leaves, hair and even the cotton clouds painted with blue eye shadow make up on my canvas. Finally, I leave you to experience for yourself the art of creative expression.

The conversation surrounding the environment can often get caught up in generalities which can quickly drive people towards crisis mode. McKitrick attempts to persuade his reader to cease talking about the environment as a single entity, and instead focus on the specific aspects that compose it.
