Final Course Reflection When I began the journey of learning the content of human growth and development, I was overwhelmed at the thought of having to understand so much content in just five weeks. To be honest, I also did not understand why we were required to learn about development of the entire lifespan. I assumed that as an aspiring school counselor, that understanding the growth and development of children ages 5 to 19 would be sufficient. My initial thoughts proved to be wrong, and further prove why this class would such a foundational course for me in my pursuit of becoming a professional school counselor. I was correct in one aspect of my initial hypothesis, which was that this course would have us navigate through a plethora of information in only five weeks. However, unlike I would have imagined, I truly enjoyed the fast-paced journey.
Immediately after I began reading the textbook, I realized that I was able to relate to and even apply much of the material I was learning in my everyday life. I am currently a new mother, so learning about the early childhood years and how critical these years would be for my infant son was so important for me. I immediately began to share the information with my

I imagine that having such knowledge would allow me to understand why certain challenges have presented themselves, as well as being aware of potential challenges depending on the what stage of life my client is experiencing. For example, if I were a school counselor working at a middle school, I would be able to anticipate social challenges, as well as a tendency for girls to display depressive moods (Broderick & Blewitt, 2015). I would also be well prepared with guidance lessons that would address the social pressures and need for establishing an identity during

Over the course of English 102, I have developed a new set of skills and learned to become a better writer. When I first came into English 102 I struggled with many different concepts of writing. During the semester in English 102, my writing became stronger because I learned how to incorporate evidence into my argument, do more thorough research, have smoother transitions, and have more organization throughout my essay. I learned how to peer review better and to take what others say and incorporate it into my essay. In the beginning, before English 102, I struggled with good organization and flow to an essay, sandwich evidence into paragraphs, and having strong arguments in persuasive essays.…

The three things that I am looking forward to in Freshman Seminar are learning more about the college experience, exploring the different majors available at Fayetteville State, and increasing my knowledge on the new things that will be taught in this class. I am looking forward to graduating from my early college, getting my acceptance letters from the colleges that I applied to, and taking classes that are related to my major. My college plans after high school are to attend Fayetteville State or go to another NC university. My career goal is to become a chemical engineer or a doctor. The most memorable moment during the holiday break was when I went to New York City to celebrate the end of year with my family.…

Last week, as I was strolling past a middle school, I saw a teacher sitting down next to a student. The teacher was giving advice to the student. The image of the teacher helping the student reminded me of when my English teacher would help me with my assignments. I enrolled in Advanced Placement English Language and Composition in my junior year at Grant High School. AP English was rumored to be a very tenacious class and the teacher, Ms. Warfield, was known for giving perplexing reading articles for homework.…

Social Constructionist Theory (SCT) in essence is the meaning, notion, or suggestion placed on an object or event by a society, and adopted by the people of that society with how they view or deal with that object or event. This idea may be accepted as natural by one culture, but may or may not represented as reality shared by those outside their culture. For example, one might think the sky is blue where another may think it is yellow, it is all about perception and how society taught us what to believe. Throughout this essay I will be giving my opinion of this topic, also how effective, and challenging SCT might be in the Child and Youth Care (CYC) careers. I was not sure what they actually named it, but as a child I always wondered why the sky was blue, why red was red, and why water was wet.…

Taking English 101 while still in high school has definitely challenged me in a positive way. It has been much different than any English course I have taken in high school, because I was able to read articles that I actually have an opinion about and seem relevant in today’s time. Throughout this course I have learned the importance of structure in essays, to be open to other people’s ideas while critically reading and responding to argument, and gained new insight on subjects I now believe are important matters in the world. I have always been able to put my ideas down on paper, but now I can do so in a more organized manner that benefits the reader and their understanding. Since the thesis statement presents the main idea for a paper,…

Conjointly, Vygotsky stipulated the importance of the teacher’s role in planning activities and lessons that should not only, include items that can be undertaken independently but also those that are ahead of development and lie in the ZPD. These are required for a developmentally relevant curriculum (Karpov & Haywood, 1998). Besides, good education should be directed at working on the developing functions and less on the developed functions (Shayer, 2002). Nevertheless, this claim does not imply that anything can be included in the curriculum, but only those that fall within the ZPD. Each developmental stage is known to have its own appropriate method of instruction.…
