Final Course Reflection When I began the journey of learning the content of human growth and development, I was overwhelmed at the thought of having to understand so much content in just five weeks. To be honest, I also did not understand why we were required to learn about development of the entire lifespan. I assumed that as an aspiring school counselor, that understanding the growth and development of children ages 5 to 19 would be sufficient. My initial thoughts proved to be wrong, and further prove why this class would such a foundational course for me in my pursuit of becoming a professional school counselor. I was correct in one aspect of my initial hypothesis, which was that this course would have us navigate through a plethora of information in only five weeks. However, unlike I would have imagined, I truly enjoyed the fast-paced journey.
Immediately after I began reading the textbook, I realized that I was able to relate to and even apply much of the material I was learning in my everyday life. I am currently a new mother, so learning about the early childhood years and how critical these years would be for my infant son was so important for me. I immediately began to share the information with my

I imagine that having such knowledge would allow me to understand why certain challenges have presented themselves, as well as being aware of potential challenges depending on the what stage of life my client is experiencing. For example, if I were a school counselor working at a middle school, I would be able to anticipate social challenges, as well as a tendency for girls to display depressive moods (Broderick & Blewitt, 2015). I would also be well prepared with guidance lessons that would address the social pressures and need for establishing an identity during

As I reflect back to the learning that I’ve gained thus far in English 5A I realized how broad English truly is, there is way more than I imagined to learn. As I started the semester, my first essay wasn’t the best, as I continued in English 5A I learned different ways on how to approach an academic essay with a better outcome. I acquired that a well written essay is structured properly by identifying the conversation about a topic. As I continued into the semester I was expected to use different ways and strategies to build an academic essay, that had a different approach about various topics. In essay two about American Education, I applied reading and writing strategies to identify the conversation and in essay three globalization, was about entering the conversation and adding my own ideas. In English 5A I’ve gained knowledge on how to properly write and inform the reader about the main purpose in an academic essay.…

Predictable changes happen in all domains of development and their meanings maybe either cultural and linguistic context. Finding out how children learn and develop at different ages can help in the setup of the learning environment. It also helps in the curriculum learning experiences and the teaching and the interaction with the child’s peers. The important part is the sequencing which helps children to gain certain concepts, skills, abilities, and building on the development and learning they have already learned. A child counting is helping them to understand numerals. Getting familiar with sequencing should help in the curriculum development and the teaching practice, (Bredekamp, 2009) Knowing this will help me to use and understand that everything is a building skill to their goals. We need to build on the skills and the concepts that these children have to get them wanting more. The fourth domain it is development that is produced by interplay which is involved in the growing and the child changing and their experiences changing in their social and physical world. A child can have a healthy growth but the nutrition could be lacking which can hider this from being accomplished. The problem with this is can be a problem and cause a minimal systematic individual intervention. A child temperament can either be wary or ongoing is shaped by the interaction of the teacher and the peers. The educator needs to hold high expectations and put forth all their knowledge, ingenuity, and be persistent in finding ways to help every child to be successful. The result of this would be the child will succeed and gain knowledge that will go with them throughout the…

Last week, as I was strolling past a middle school, I saw a teacher sitting down next to a student. The teacher was giving advice to the student. The image of the teacher helping the student reminded me of when my English teacher would help me with my assignments. I enrolled in Advanced Placement English Language and Composition in my junior year at Grant High School. AP English was rumored to be a very tenacious class and the teacher, Ms. Warfield, was known for giving perplexing reading articles for homework. In addition, the class articles were vigorous. Ms. Warfield taught me how to use highlighters and margin notes and this technique has made me a better writer and reader overall.…

On Friday, December 2nd, I attended the Oasis Lunch and Learn event. It was located in the Oasis room in the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center and the event took place from 12:00-1:00pm. I believe the majority of the people who attended were all in a multicultural club, however they did not make it clear which specific club they were all a part of. Approximately 20 students showed up to the event and the group consisted of students of all different races and backgrounds. I’ll admit I felt a little out of place at first, but as I began talking to a few of the individuals who attended, I felt very welcome and ended up having a great experience. I would describe the atmosphere as relaxed and informal. Though the event was less formal then I had expected it to be, I…

Recently, I have grown interest in artificial intelligence and I decided to make my senior capstone related to it. For my capstone, I decided to develop a chess game that would allow a user to play against the computer. In the fall of 2015, I researched about how to develop the program and learned about the mathematics beyond developing the AI. After the research, I decided about the features that version one will include.…

Without any technological experience, I knew that this final project was going to be an exhausting one. There were many strenuous paths I took in order to create this video. However, I overcame them with the help of my brother and his technological expertise. In the process of creating my rough draft, I probably had the worst idea imaginable. I planned to finish this video through the use of an application that I downloaded from my iPhone. The application was a video maker, and this was perhaps the biggest failure that I’ve encountered during this project. The video maker application worked fine at first, but I soon realized that it was difficult to synchronize music and clips together. The main purpose of this project was for me to explain…

Taking English 101 while still in high school has definitely challenged me in a positive way. It has been much different than any English course I have taken in high school, because I was able to read articles that I actually have an opinion about and seem relevant in today’s time. Throughout this course I have learned the importance of structure in essays, to be open to other people’s ideas while critically reading and responding to argument, and gained new insight on subjects I now believe are important matters in the world.…

Coming into this course, I really didn 't know what to expect. Sociology is something that I’ve always known about, but never really paid much attention to. As many people other people think, I saw sociology and psychology as the same thing. I didn 't take the time to read or understand what the difference was and even if there really was a difference. I quickly learned that there was. Sociology is “the scientific study of society and human behavior” (Henslin, 2011). The weekly reading taught me something new each and every time. I’ve never been a big fan of reading textbooks, but I found the book for this course to be very interesting. The topics and reading that were assigned were things people could relate to and topics that are constantly being talked about in society. With each of the weekly readings came a weekly paper. The papers weren 't too bad to write. I can actually say that I enjoyed writing a few of them because the topic was something that would interest me on any given day. There were three topics that stood out to me: race/ethnicity, deviance and norm, and social class.…

Now that I have completed the first seven units, my view of statistics has changed a great deal. In unit one, I was certainly confused on what to expect with this course, and I was frightened by this subject called statistics. I actually had no idea why this course was required since I would never utilize this for anything. However, I now realize the importance of having an understanding of statistics. Thus, I have realized the significance of analyzing the data vividly and conclusively for myself rather than irrationally trusting another person’s analysis as it appears (Mirabella, 2011). Accordingly, this course has opened my eyes to the importance of statistics in the world that I live by showing me that statistics is beyond that of…

Conjointly, Vygotsky stipulated the importance of the teacher’s role in planning activities and lessons that should not only, include items that can be undertaken independently but also those that are ahead of development and lie in the ZPD. These are required for a developmentally relevant curriculum (Karpov & Haywood, 1998). Besides, good education should be directed at working on the developing functions and less on the developed functions (Shayer, 2002). Nevertheless, this claim does not imply that anything can be included in the curriculum, but only those that fall within the ZPD. Each developmental stage is known to have its own appropriate method of instruction. As a matter of fact, the age period of the students need to be taken into…

Majority of the general education courses I took or will be taking supports most of my concentration classes. For instance I took computer fundamental classes in operating systems, programming, and database to advance in web systems development and data communications and networking. To be successful in web systems development I needed some understanding and become familiar in programming. Programming is basically learning a computer language it will allow you to tell the computer what design you want or command the computer. The prerequisites for data communications and networking would be operating systems and network. I took the fundamentals in operating systems at CUNY and during my military IT training in Cisco network fundamentals, Cisco routing protocols, and network administration I became familiar and comfortable in taking the course.…
